Episode 30
TODAY’S READING:
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5
Friday at last! Praying you to have a beautiful day today! I hope you get to slow down for a second and just get to breathe today. I feel like now, especially with today’s climate, we all need to take a breather.
I chose this verse because I wanted to highlight what it meant to be meek. It’s such beautiful work and one I wish we all used more often. I even named the title of today’s devotional, let us become meek.
So what does being meek mean? Well, for starters, in other translations of the bible, it says, “God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth” – and I think this is a great place to start from when trying to really understand meekness.
To be humble. Humble yourself. We throw this word around so often, but do we really understand and practice the meaning? Do you lay yourself down for other people? In today’s society, it’s so easy to look at all that’s going on and say, “wow, we are such a selfish society – no one cares about anything until it’s about something that actually affects them.” So I have come to challenge you today. Are you humble? Or are you pointing the finger at society, starring at a reflection of yourself in the mirror?
One of my favorite graphs is that spider-man gift, where he is pointing at himself. A lot of times, that could be the picture of who we are. Blaming society for the very people we are. I know I am guilty of that. I am a person who has to be right. I try to work on that, but it’s hard for me to see the other person’s opinions on a certain matter, and maybe you are the same.
Well, my prayer today is to become a meeker. The definition is quiet, gentle, teachable, submissive. I hope when others speak, I can quiet down and listen to their side of the story. I pray I can empathize with them. I pray I am gentle with my response. I pray I am able to learn something from that person.
When we do this, we can learn how to better serve others. Whether that’s through conversation or not. We can all learn to be someone for somebody.
Jesus is asking us to become meek. He is asking us to become more like him. Remember, he is the God who meets the town prostitute and calls her daughter. He created us ALL. He loves us ALL. So humble yourself, serve one another, and you’ll see the world will be given to you. Not out of selfish gain, but because He will willingly bless you in return.
PRAYER
Jesus, I pray we learn how to become quiet, gentle, and teachable. Lord teaches us how to humble ourselves and actually practice the act of being humble. I pray every day; we strive to become meek. I pray we are able to connect with one another, and we learn to serve one another. Thank you for yet another day; bless us as we go about our mornings. Bless our weekends. It is in your Holy name that we pray, Amen!
