Episode 31

TODAY’S READING:

16-17 “Now be on your way. Gather the leaders of Israel. Tell them, ‘God, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, appeared to me, saying, “I’ve looked into what’s being done to you in Egypt, and I’ve determined to get you out of the affliction of Egypt and take you to the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, a land brimming over with milk and honey.”’

Exodus 3:17

I hope you had the absolute best weekend, and this week is one that blesses you.

I love this verse because this verse shows us that God knew what was being done to His people, and he was determined to get them out of their affliction and give them over to a land overflowing with milk and honey.

Affliction – something that causes great suffering.

You may think you are absolutely alone in this life when you are in the middle of your pain, but you’re not. You are never alone. God sees your pain; he sees your suffering, and he has a promised land waiting for you.

Pain doesn’t always mean sitting at home crying. Pain and suffering have many faces. When you feel yourself disappointed with where you are, longing to be further along – that is a practice of self-inflicted pain. When events happen in your life, that change the trajectory for the rest of your life, and you can’t accept these events – that can be a form of pain. Pain can be anger that you’ve built up over the years. Pain can be a lot of things, from resentment to numbness.

I beg you to pray in these moments. God is with you, he promises to get you out, and he promises to give you a land overflowing in milk and honey. A lot of times, we can read that verse and think God has a life waiting for us with a big beautiful home and a lavish car. He has nice vacations planned for us, and we are going to eat at the finest restaurants every single weekend.

This may be true, but this isn’t the milk and honey, I mean. You see, if you give your anger, grief, and resentment to God, he is going to lead you into a new life where you will overflow with joy, companionship, and love. You will see the world differently. If you read on, you’ll know this land comes with giants, and many of the people didn’t want to walk into this land because of them.

I think this serves as a reminder that no matter what season of life that you find yourself in, there will be some form of a giant in your life. Our choice is to learn how to live with these “bumps in the road” while living a sweet life full of contentment and patience.

You will get to where you are headed. Give it all to God and watch your life change in an instant.

PRAYER

Jesus, we pray for the strength to hand over whatever it is that binds us. We want to walk in the freedom you have called for us. Lord, we want to overflow in milk and honey, not money and material objects, but love and joy. We want to live life with unwavering peace. Lord, help us get to this point. We love you, now and forever. Amen!
