Episode 65
TODAY’S READING:
Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.
Psalm 55:22
You don’t realize how little patience you have until you’ve been without AC for a few days.
About 3 weeks ago, my AC decided to just stop working. Thankfully the property management group had an HVAC company over on the same day to assess my unit. After about an hour or so, it was up and running.
Then, last Sunday, my AC stopped working. I slept in 84 degrees for 2 days. The technician came to fix the AC over a period of three times. And for a while, I thought I would never have to experience that kind of heat inside a home again, but I was wrong.
Here I am just a few days later, in the middle of the summer in Miami, FL, with broken AC. This is the result of technicians putting a series of bandaids over a serious problem, costing more money in the long run rather than replacing the system in the home.
This is a real-life reminder that sometimes the systems we have in place are old and outdated. When they stop working, we put bandaids over them so that we don’t have to face the music and be okay with the fact that we need an entirely new system.
Broken systems are easy to spot. It’s usually when you hit rock bottom, and you know you need help from God himself. But how many of you know that your unit should get a tune-up every single year.
Yearly maintenance can save up to 50% of broken units. Who thought we would have so much in common with Air Conditioning?
Our internal system needs the same thing. This is why fasting is important. This is why studies are important. You can’t just go to Church on Sunday, and you need to be doing more on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis to connect with God.
This is the time in which we can freely give our burdens to God. Like this verse says, He will take care of us. He will not let us slip.
PRAYER
Father God, we ask for our pride to be removed. I pray we give our burdens to you on a daily, weekly, and yearly basis. May we take the time to work on our internal systems. May we take the time to connect with you. We don’t want to run until we hit rock bottom; we want you beside us the whole time. So give us the discipline to keep healthy prayer habits. Give us the strength to continue to pray even when we’ve lost hope for a better tomorrow. It is in your Holy name that we pray, Amen!
