Episode 90

TODAY’S READING:

The greedy stir up conflict, but those who trust in the LORD will prosper.

Proverbs 28:25

Isn’t the saying more money more problems? To an extent, I think that is correct. If you tend to be greedy with your money, emotions, knowledge, and wisdom, you will create conflict. You’ll start walking around as if you are better than others. You will become reserved, and you won’t let others in. You will hold back instead of bettering the world.

I hope we are all the better because we know and trust God. I pray we prosper. When I set out to write and record these devotionals, my intention was to record my daily prayers to keep me accountable. What’s happened is that it keeps me accountable not just in the mornings when I pray but also throughout the day.

It’s human nature to lean towards the flesh. We can become greedy when we are looking to advance in our careers and finances. We can become greedy with our God-given gifts. We can become greedy with our skills. When we take the control out of God’s hands, and we place it in ours, the conflict will arise.

We should be willing to help others. Don’t hold onto your treasure and keep it to yourself. Haven’t you ever studied the dead sea? The Dead Sea and the Sea of Galilee are connected by the Jordan. Life prospers at Galilee, but on the other hand, the Dead Sea has been given its nickname because of the amount of salt it has. Nothing live can live there. Everything around it is engulfed by the salt. So how do two lakes with the same flow of water have two very different outcomes? The Dead Sea takes in the water, and there is nowhere for it to release what it’s been given. It keeps it for its self, whereas, on the other hand, Galilee redistributes the water back to the Jordan River.

The best part about this? The Jordan river was where Jesus was baptized. He is the water that can give us life. We prosper because of Him.

The learning lesson for today is simple. Let go and trust God. He is going to provide for you. You will get that promotion or that better job. You will see your dreams come to fruition. Your small business will flourish. What is meant for you will never leave you. So stop walking around trying to protect what is “yours” because it was never yours, to begin with. Everything you have now has been given to you.

PRAYER

Jesus, we surrender our every motive to you. We surrender our gifts, our wisdom, our faith, and our finances to you. We do not want to be greedy. Show us how to give back to others. We understand that we will prosper even more if we gave it all back to you and your kingdom. Show us how. Push us when we tend to lean towards our flesh. It is in your mighty name that we pray, Amen!

Hi, I'm Ali.
I want to encourage you on your faith journey!

I'm the coffee obsessed baker from Miami, FL who got too busy to find time to read scripture everyday. I knew my life was better with Jesus and I knew I wasn't the only one struggling with finding alone time with God every morning, so I put my dreams of opening a bakery aside and set out to produce a five minute daily devotional. What first started as an email chain, has now flourished into a beautiful community and I am so happy you are here!

MY TESTIMONY

We are a faith based community in pursuit of daily prayer. All it takes is five minutes - we know you're busy but He loves you still.
