Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”
1 Corinthians 15:33

I just love it when the bible serves us sass.
I don’t think this verse needs any extra observation, but it definitely needs application.
We have all had a chapter in our life where we’ve been surrounded by people who are, for lack of a better word, toxic. It doesn’t mean those people are bad people; it just means their way of life doesn’t closely align with yours.
You have a good character. You are taking 5 minutes out of your day to listen to scripture. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done or who you were in the past; what matters is that right here right now, on October 13th, 2020, you tuned into a devotional podcast – looking to hear from God.
Every day we get the choice to serve our living and loving God, or we get the choice to surround ourselves with different people and different habits that are anything but God’s best for you.
Be thankful for the people you have in your life. Call them, catch up. See how they’ve been doing during quarantine.
Ecclesiastes 4:10 says, “If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”
Make it your mission to be a good character in the life of your close friends and family. Listen to their needs and serve them where you can.
If you’re in a place where you think you need new people in your life, pray for them. Remember yesterday’s devotional. Make your list and check it twice – ask God for the kind of people you want to be surrounded with.
Give your best friend, sister, brother, mother, father – a big hug the next time you see them.
Jesus, we thank you for the community. We thank you for the people in our lives. If we are ever in a situation that makes us question if the people around us are spoiling our character, I pray you to remove us from that situation. Lord, we do not want to be blind to the gossip, to the jealously, to the comparison; we want to be surrounded by love, light, and others who are on fire for us. We love you with everything in us. It is in your mighty name that we pray, Amen!
