Episode 144

TODAY’S READING:

The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Exodus 15:2

Happy Thursday, friends! Praying you’ve all had a beautiful week. I’m sure this week you’ve stayed up late wrapping gifts or doing last-minute shopping. A lot of us have been thrown off our routines; I know I have! But we’re here now and ready to get in our 5-minute daily dose of heaven!

This verse is beautiful, feels like a poem or a song you’d write for the love of our life, and oddly, it’s exactly what it is. It comes from the song of Moses and Miriam at the beginning of the exodus.

We’ve been praying and preparing for Christmas through our Advent 2020 series of prayers. We’ve been talking about Jesus and why he came who he was but today, we want to look at how we’ve been praising his name long before he came, the same way we’ve been praising His name for thousands of years after he departed the earth.

He is the most talked-about man in history. Why? Well, because he is the one man who will seek you more than anyone on this planet. He looks for you when you’re lonely. He will never leave you behind, and we get to celebrate in that.

Another version of this verse says The Lord is my strength and my Shield.”

I like that it’s the too opposite. He promises to give us strength when we need it. But He also promises to be our shield and, in this verse, our song. Almost as an indication that he gives you the force to keep going, he also gives you the rhythm to slow down.

What does a shield do? It protects you from the incoming attack. It allows you to catch your breath before you can keep fighting. Remind yourself that it’s okay to take shelter when you need a moment to breathe.

My prayer for us today is that we ask for strength if we need it today, or we ask for shelter if we need that. Whether you’re on track and tackling goals or if you’re at a place where you need a break. He is with us.

PRAYER

Father God, thank you for chasing after our hearts. Thank you for the strength you give us and the shelter you provide. Thank you for giving us the tools to succeed every single day. You are our strength, our song, our world. We are all going through something different, and you see that. Remind us that everyone we encounter is going through something only you know. This was we can also extend the same grace you give us. We pray you to bless this day ahead of us. We love and honor you. It is in your name that we pray, AMEN!
