Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.
Wednesday already and another proverb to get us through the day. I was thinking about my dreams for this community and my dreams for my life in general and how in many instances, I have this need for control.
All my life, I wanted control over certain things in my life. I wanted to graduate by a certain year. Get married, buy a house, have kids. I had my whole life mapped out.
I eventually let go of my dreams for my timeline. I surrendered that when I got older, but today I find myself wanting to control when I am stable enough to leave my job.
I also have this need habit of outlining my dreams in perfect detail. Don’t get me wrong; it’s good to have dreams, it’s great to visualize; I love my vision board, but it’s the only thing to dream of a future and another thing to feel the need to control the very outcome of it.
We may have a million plans to do many different things, build a home from scratch, start a dream business, write a book, have three kids, etc. But we must never forget that the Lord has a plan for Himself.
The best part of Him having a plan for us is that not only will his purpose for us prevail time and time again, but it will always be the better option for us. Our takeaway today is to let him take control. Let Him guide you to where He needs you. Rather than being so absorbed in your timeline or needs, ask Him how he wants to use you. Watch how you’ll instantly become less stressed. Not only that, but you may also start to find genuine value in work He has you do.
Jesus, we know that your plans for us are greater than we could ever dream or imagine. We know that having a plan and visualizing the future is a good thing, but we also realize it can become unhealthy for us to control every outcome. We ask that you help us surrender it all to you. Lord, use us today; use us tomorrow. We want to be a vessel for your work. We don’t need to know everything; we know your plans for us are greater, so today, we pray that we can walk badly into what you’ve set aside for us. We thank you in advance. We love you, and it is in your Holy name that we pray, AMEN!
