Episode 252
TODAY’S READING:
12 Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brothers were righteous.
1 John 3:12
I was doing some digging on Cain and Able, and I wanted to see if they were mentioned in other places in the Bible, and in fact, they were.
This verse serves as if he is directing us right here right now. Do not be like Cain. – It’s a declaration.
He is speaking directly to us. Now, as I continued to read, I felt as if a picture was painted in my head. I am going to do the best I can to illustrate it.
Every day we battle the Cain from within. No, we aren’t going to kill our brother, but we do have an Able inside. The Able is a righteous part of you. Its actions and its way of living are in right standing with God, but we have a Cain that works really hard to kill the Able.
It’s so much easier to do so. It’s easier to give into sin than to live in righteousness. It’s easier to give in to society; it’s easier to give in to our rage and jealously. It’s easier to be this person, but this verse is instruction us, do not be like Cain!
Don’t kill the light from within. Don’t dim your communication with God. Don’t dismiss when he speaks or pushes you to do something. Don’t undermine the true power of living a righteous life. You’ll end up hurt and alone, engulfed in fear.
PRAYER
Jesus, every day, we fight to keep the light from within shining. Lord, we want to live a righteous life. We want to live an honorable life; we do not want to be like Cain; we do not want to kill the righteous within. Help us father in staying strong. Help us when things get tough. We ask that you bless this day. It is in your son’s Holy name that we pray, AMEN!
