Episode 270

TODAY’S READING:

13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

John 15:13

A few days ago we read, 1 John 3:16 that said, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” And then, in today’s verse, we read, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

So what does it mean? Why does it come up again and again?

I think it’s to really show us the power of love. Rater love is no one than this, meaning there is nothing more powerful than loving your neighbor.

This principle should be applied everywhere you go. Lay down your life for your co-workers. When they have questions, answer them. When they need help, help them.

Lay down your life for your family. When your sister calls for the 100th time, answer her. Listen to what she has to say.

All of our relationships could use a little help; no matter how strong the relationship is, either party always has room to grow. So the question is, are we serving the people around us, and if not, why? What is going on in your own life that has you so distracted and un-whiling to serve?

PRAYER

Jesus, thank you for laying your life for us; it is the perfect example for us to do with others. Today we want to be extra careful with those we come into contact with. We want to make sure we are serving others and not just being served. We ask that you bless the weekend ahead of us. It is with absolutely everything us that we pray, AMEN!
