Episode 282
TODAY’S READING:
Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.
Colossians 4:2
I was talking to a friend yesterday, and she said, isn’t it funny how we are always looking to the future and the next chapter of our lives, but once we are in that chapter, we look back on our lives with nostalgia?
And that really got me thinking of my life and my actions today. What could I do today to be ever-present and rooted in the gift of today?
Tomorrow isn’t promised. We know that. Yesterday is no longer here, so why do we look to the future and overlook the present?
It’s the hope that things will be better. It’s the lie that what we are looking for (happiness, prosperity, love, etc.) can only be found in the future and not in the present.
If we aren’t careful, we can spend our entire life hoping for a better tomorrow, and before you know it, your life will flash before your eyes.
I think if we hold onto this verse, it can help us stay present today. Be steadfast in prayer and while you pray, give thanks. Show your gratitude. Gratitude is what will open your eyes to the gifts all around you.
So as you go about your day, list out 5 things you are grateful for and spend time praying, worshiping, and talking to God. Give Him thanks for the things you have and the people you surround yourself with.
PRAYER
Jesus, thank you for giving us this joyous day. We come to you with grateful hearts. Thank you for the gift of the present. We promise to move a little slower today. We want to see the world. We promise to be more conscious while we are around others and on our phones. Let us engage in interaction and get to know the people you have connected us to. We thank you for everything in us. It is in your holy name that we pray, AMEN!
