Episode 347
TODAY’S READING:
Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.
Proverbs 12:25
With a title like that, I am sure the first thing you thought of is body fat, and that is exactly what is wrong with our thinking. We think the only weight we have to lose is bodyweight, but there is so much more we can be carrying.
The Bible makes it a point to remind us several times of the power of our minds and the weight of this world. It reminds us that His burden is light, and we don’t have to worry.
This verse especially talks about the weight of anxiety. I am going to read this in a few different translations:
Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression,
But a good word makes it glad.
NKJV
Worry is a heavy load,
but a kind word cheers you up.
NCV
Heaviness in the heart of a man maketh it stoop;
But a good word maketh it glad.
ASV
A person’s anxiety will weigh him down
but an encouraging word makes him joyful.
GW
I know we are all dealing with a level of anxiety. You can’t leave your house these days without feeling the weight of the world. You have a million choices to make every day. Are you making the right choice? We are absorbing information at a million miles per hour, always consuming, never releasing.
We know what happens if we consume 1,000 extra calories a day. It’s no different when we take on excess worry, fear, and doubt. The heart gets heavier; the weight turns into anxiety, anxiety turns into depression.
God’s word is faithful because after every warning comes to a remedy. Like running around the park helps burn extra calories, surrounding yourself with kind words, good words, encouraging words helps shed the weight. So today, let us be surrounded by encouraging words. Let us do the things that make us glad.
PRAYER
Father God, we come to you today looking to shed the extra weight, Lord. We don’t want to feel this heaviness anymore. We pray to find the time to slow down today and surround ourselves with kind words, good words, encouraging words. We pray our hearts to find good, cheerful, and glad moments throughout the day. It is in your Holy Son’s name that we ask for your blessing today. AMEN!
