Episode 371

TODAY’S READING:

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Ephesians 4:29

There is truly nothing worse than hearing your private conversations aired out for others to spread.

Truthfully, I have been on both ends of the spectrum, and neither position feels good.

Spreading gossip hurts not just the person you are talking about, but it makes you feel impure.

This verse is giving us clear instructions so that we can reframe these instances from happening.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of our mouth… aka it starts with us.

We have to be honorable people. People who respect privacy and people who respect conversations that are shared between two people should stay right there.

Recently I got caught up in a “she said, she heard, they told this person, etc.” conflict regarding personal information.

In the moment, I was so upset, but as time passed, I realized that I too had done to same to others. I want us to be a community that builds up one another. Let us be vigilant of what we say and vigilant of what is being spoken to us. Let us direct conversations with the Holy Spirit at the center; if it doesn’t feel right well, then maybe it isn’t building or benefiting the listener or the person we are speaking about.

Let’s be intentional today.

PRAYER

Lord forgive us when we do wrong by our brothers and sisters. We thank you for showing us grace even when we hurt others. Lord help us in forgiving those that hurt us. We love you with everything in us, AMEN!
