Episode 397
TODAY’S READING:
But when the helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, e will bear witness about me.
John 15:26
Yesterday we read Isaiah 9:6, and I wanted to read that quickly once again.
For to us, a child is born, to us, a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Today I wanted to focus on our Wonderful Counselor. You see, the wisdom of God is what I hold onto most. How would Jesus have reacted to this situation? What is the righteous thing to do? Not necessarily the right thing.
How is God looking at this person? What is it that is expected from me in the eyes of Christ?
All of these questions that we should ask daily.
You see, when Jesus came to earth, He went with the answers to all of them. His life is a model of how we should be living.
But the greatest thing He did wasn’t just go to the cross for you and me, but He left us with something.
We read out of John that He is talking about the Holy Spirit. We are a people that believe in a three-part God. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit. The very Spirit that lives within us.
When we are seeking wisdom, we look to Jesus, we look to the stories of Him in the bible, but we also ask, and we meditate on His word. In there, we find answers. It comes to us like a whisper. It comes from within.
The Holy Spirit is our wonderful counselor. It’s the voice of righteousness. The one that convicts us.
Yesterday I dropped off my car at the Enterprise Car Rental. The time has finally come to pick up my car following the car accident I had a few weeks ago. Something deep inside told me to look on the passenger door for anything I may have forgotten, and I ignored it.
I came home, and my sister asked me if I had checked the passenger door because she had forgotten her eyeglasses case.
In an instant, I thought about the voice and how I ignored it. I wonder how many times the Holy Spirit is directing me, and I ignore him daily. Today I pray I lean into our counselor just a little more. May we hear from him when we speak, when we guide, and nudges.
PRAYER
Jesus, you came to earth and modeled a righteous life for us to follow. You then gave us the greatest gift that lives within us. Thank you to our counselor. Thank you for the Spirit that guides us daily. We truly couldn’t do life without it. We thank you, and we ask for wisdom today. Help us in doing the next right thing. We love you with everything in us, AMEN
