TODAY’S READING
4 Through these, he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
2 Peter 1:4
You may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. And so, this verse promises us two things. One the world was when this was written and will always be corrupt. Therefore it is still corrupt today, so he has given us the ability to participate in divine nature. And so we know that we are not of this world, we are in this world, but we’re not of it. And so we know that in life, you’re going to come across corrupt people, Corrupt Organizations, and things following these evil desires. It’s the temptation of the world.
It is all a part of our faith that we are given the strength to Jesus to continue to combat those different temptations every single day. The different strongholds, addictions, anything of that nature. And so we know that God has promised us precious promises in the form of divine nature. And so what is divine? And to me, when I thought about that question, what is the most divine thing I can think of? To me, it’s honestly the grace of God; there is absolutely nothing like it for someone to love us so much. You know, I don’t have kids yet, but I think about the day that I will have children and the love that I will experience for that child, and I look at my friends who are currently first-time moms and second-time moms, and I see how much love they pour into their children. And I just think to myself, If they love them that much, how much more does God love us? And we see that through His grace. Every time we mess up. He’s there. He is forgiving. He is kind, he is caring, and he is strong. And our focus today should be to be thankful for the grace that God shows us every single day. And we should be thankful that we get to live a life of freedom. We should also be thankful just for the simple things in life, the lungs, that we have the breath in our lungs, the food or our table, the relationships in our lives, and those little things that mean the absolute world.
We can be after a life of fame, a life of riches, a life that is very extravagant, but the reality is that those are those worldly desires, and there’s nothing wrong with having those things. But if our heart is not in the right place, we’re just going after the world and what it has to offer instead of what God has to offer.
Prayer:
Father God, we love you so much. And we thank you for the ability to gather in your name. Lord, we thank you for this beautiful Thursday. Lord, we are just thankful for the living things today. The breath in our lungs and the relationships in our lives, the food on our table. God, you give us our every need to Lord to we are so thankful for your precious promise of freedom or your precious promise of life. We thank you for absolutely everything that you continue to do in our lives. We ask that you continue to bless us on this Beautiful Thursday, and it is in your son’s holy name that we pray today and every day, Amen.
