TODAY’S READING
27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
James 1:27
I love this verse. I have done it a couple of times now. And it’s because it is a great reminder for us as we continue to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord. It is a great reminder for us to know that there are some things that Jesus came to change. And one of that was the need for the law.
He was a new law. He was the New Covenant that he made with us. And that is a covenant full of grace. And so he came to destroy the idea of these systems and rules and regulations. And really, he wanted to create relationships. So what I like about this verse is that it does tell us that there is a couple of things that he accepts as quote unquote, religion and that is to look after orphans and widows, and that means to look after those who need help poor helpless orphans have no parents and widows have lost their husbands have lost their protectors and their providers of the home. So it is our job to look after people, groups of people that fall into that category that fall into the need of help. They need protection.
I hope that we are generous people, people who realize that we have the opportunity to bless others through our efforts. I hope that we understand that we have a relationship with Christ and we don’t have to do much, but we can be great people, and by doing that, all we need to do is look after our families look after strangers that need help and keep ourselves from being polluted by the world.
Prayer:
Father God, we thank You, Lord, for this beautiful Friday. We thank you for the opportunity to continue to get to know you on a daily basis, or we get to have the opportunity to read your truth Your scripture on a daily basis as the Lord today we devote to being a people who do not get polluted by the world Lord, we stand firm in our faith. We stand firm knowing that you created a relationship with our Creator for us. You came to eradicate the law and give us the opportunity to go directly to the Father. Lord, we thank you for the possibility of not just a relationship with you and not just the ability to stay firm in our faith. But Lord, we ask for the strength to continue to bless your people. We will continue to provide for those who need it most, those who are helpless in their season. And so God, wherever you have us, wherever you need us, Lord, continue to open those doors, continue to nudge us in that direction, and may we be a blessing to others because you were first a blessing to us. We pray this all in your son’s mighty name. Amen.
