TODAY’S READING
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John.
7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light so that through him all might believe.
8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
John 1:6-8
This week. We’ve been looking at John chapter one, verses one through eight. We’ve been reading about Jesus; we’ve been reading about how he was there at the beginning, that he is the light that is found, and that the darkness has not overcome it. And we’re also looking at John the Baptist and how he was a man sent from God as a witness to testify to this light. And what we can do is be like John because he did pave the way for Jesus. He baptized him he preached, proclaiming that the Messiah was coming. He made a way so that others may find the light and people start to hear him, and people came to know Jesus because of all the things that John the Baptist said. So we can be like John this holiday season, teaching others and making way for non-believers to come into contact with Jesus for the first time. We don’t have to stand at the street corner with a sign; we don’t have to proclaim that the end is near. We can just have gentle conversations with others that invite the Holy Spirit to speak. Our job is to lead people to Jesus, and Jesus will then work in their hearts. So remind yourself that you can be a John this holiday season. You can point others to the one that has saved you because we all know that He is mighty to save. You know that every tongue will confess and every knee will bow, and we are able to just pay a small part in that we can have these gentle conversations that can lead people to the grace of God.
We can show the miracles that he’s done on our behalf. We can prove how our family was once and where they are today. We can prove in our personal lives where we were once and where we are today. Many things that we can do and say to appoint another person to Jesus, especially if they have never met him before. So as we equip ourselves with this holiday season as we get ready for this Advent season series that is coming up on Monday, May we continue to pour ourselves into the Word of God is that we can continue to emulate his light for others.
Prayer:
Father God, we thank You, Lord, for this beautiful Friday. We thank you for the opportunity to show others the beauty of Your grace Lord or the beauty of Your Son, Jesus. Through gentle conversations, we can allow the Holy Spirit to work on our behalf so that you may continue to reach the unreachable. We know that all things are possible with you. So may we start the conversation that you notice to be we open the door that you ask us to? We are here to spread your light because we have come so far with you at the center of our lives, and we know that others will benefit from it just as we have. So we look to you; we look to the gentleness of the spirit to continue to allow us to make way for conversations to happen. We paved the way for Jesus this Christmas season. Thank you in advance, and we love you. I ask that you pray and you bless tomorrow for me, Lord. Thank you in advance. We pray this in Your Son’s mighty, mighty name, Amen.
