You're listening to my morning devotional podcast, episode 1017. Today's devotional is called leaven it up. Hey there. We're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the my morning Devotional podcast. Good morning, everybody. Happy Tuesday. As you can tell by the title of this episode, it's gonna be fun. We have Gabby with us, and she just has these puns. And honestly, it just starts the podcast in a great mood. Yes. You know, it's gonna be good.

00:00:47.799 --> 00:01:20.554
Yes. And hopefully, if you're watching this, you know, we're not saying living, we're saying leaven. And when we get to the verse, you'll understand what I'm talking about. Yeah. So can we just get right into it today? Let's jump into it. We might as well. Okay, so today it's called leaven it up because it comes from Galatians five nine. And like I said yesterday, we're going to be focusing on Galatians five, looking at the fruit of the spirit and everything that surrounds it. So it's Galatians five nine, and it says this, a little leaven. Leavens the whole lump. Now, if you don't know what leaven is, it's yeast.

00:01:20.713 --> 00:01:39.561
So back at the Bible times, it was unleavened bread that's basically just like flat bread, like crackers, basically, or non bread, because it has no yeast inside of it. So what this verse is saying is a little bit of yeast basically makes the whole bread rise. Correct. So a little goes along a long way.

00:01:39.617 --> 00:01:53.400
That's a better way of saying it. And this is something that in Galatians five, Paul is talking to these. The church in Galatia. And what's happening here is that there's jewish christians and then gentile christians or gentiles.

00:01:53.552 --> 00:02:55.377
And in this city, the jewish Christians are going to the Gentiles. And the jewish Christians are like, yes, Jesus set us free and died for our sins, and we believe in the messiah, but you still have to follow the law. But then you have these gentiles that were taught by Paul that all you need is Jesus. And yeah, the law was there to show us what sin is and to show us boundaries. But Jesus Christ sets you free. It's the spirit that sets you free. And so Paul leaves. And these two groups of people start to argue and the jewish Christians actually start to get in the head of these gentiles and kind of teach them a false doctrine ultimately and to confuse them. And so Paul writes this letter to them and he's saying, hey, guys, a little leaven leavens the whole lump. If you go back, I know I'm doing a lot of like Bible facts here, but if you go back to, in one of the, in the gospels, when Jesus is talking to his disciples about the Pharisees, he talks to them about, he uses the word leaven and he said, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees.

00:02:55.545 --> 00:03:56.584
And the disciples take it as bread. And he's saying, they're like, oh, what do you mean the bread? Because this was after Jesus fed the 5000. They're like, what are you talking about, bread? We have bread. And Jesus is like, I'm not talking about bread. I'm talking about the teaching. So if we take that part and we look at now this verse about a little leaven, leaven's a whole lump. What Paul is telling them is beware of the things that you hear. Because a little bit of false doctrine, one misinterpretation, one misunderstanding, one bit of information that confuses you, can ruin your whole understanding of Christ. And I think this is so good for us to know and be aware of that. Just a little bit of listening to the wrong speaker that you are not aligned with or really listening to, maybe something on the news or you listen to an opinion from another podcast that someone is not saved and they are Christian. And we're taking all these different voices today.

00:03:56.963 --> 00:04:13.223
This is teaching us that just a little bit of that, all you need is a little bit of yeast to make bread, rice. Just a little bit of that sin or just a little bit of that false doctrine can really ruin how we see things. And so the main lesson here is a little bit goes a long way.

00:04:14.324 --> 00:04:59.177
One thought about somebody, one negative thought can stir up offense. One moment where you don't forgive somebody for one little thing, if you decide to hold a grudge against for somebody, for one thing, that can ruin the whole relationship. You could say one bad word against a person and all of a sudden you'll see you just have a deep, honestly, let's just be honest, like a hatred towards that person. If you're not careful, a little goes a long way when it comes to sin. When it comes to false understanding and false doctrine, it doesn't take that much for us to get confused. It doesn't take a lot. So let's be mindful today. A little bit goes a long way. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. What. What are we listening to?

00:04:59.266 --> 00:05:06.298
Who are. Who are we listening to in our lives? Are we listening to the right voices? We say it, right voices, right choices?

00:05:06.466 --> 00:05:35.942
So who are you listening to? What are the thoughts you're thinking about, people? What are the decisions you make? Because a small decision leads to big decisions. A small thought leads to big thoughts. Because everything starts somewhere. Everything starts somewhere. Somewhere. Amen. Yes. And so for us, you should be mindful about the little things. You should be the person that sees. You should make a mountain out of a molehill just to be careful and run everything by the Lord.

00:05:36.077 --> 00:06:34.639
Let people say, hey, don't worry about that. You know, like, let the Lord say, hey, chill out a little bit. Because we need to be aware that little things turn into big things. It's a ripple effect. So a little oven leaven's the whole lump and so be on guard today. That's so good, Gabby. Thank you for that. Can you pray for us? Yes. Lord, we thank you for today. We thank you for your word that calls out truth in all of us. And we just pray, God, that you would start to expose the leaven in our lives. What is it, God, that starts small that will become big? What is it in us that starts small? That's a small decision, a small mindset, a small voice, God, something that starts small that we might not even see as a big deal, but will have a big impact in our lives. I pray that you would show all of us that today, whether it's in our job, in our school, in our family, Lord, in our relationships. What is it, God, that we need to be careful of? That way it doesn't affect us in the future.

00:06:34.791 --> 00:06:52.576
And, Lord, just like a little leaven can leaven the whole lump in a negative way, it can also work in a positive way. So help us make small, good decisions. Help us think small good thoughts, Lord, that can help lead us to good decisions, good thoughts, and a good life in the future. In Jesus name we pray.

00:06:52.680 --> 00:07:00.232
Amen. So there you have it. Your five minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today.
