Meek Mindset

Meek Mindset

What are some practical steps you can take to shift your mindset daily to focus on humility?

In today's episode, "Meek Mindset," we were blessed to have Lauren Alessi join us to discuss the power of humility and the transformative impact it can have on our lives. Our conversation was anchored around Psalm 131:1, where David beautifully expresses the importance of not letting our hearts be lifted too high and surrendering our burdens to God. As life gets busier, it’s essential to remember this meek mindset and understand that true peace often comes from letting go of things beyond our control.

So grab your favorite cup of coffee, settle in, and let's begin this beautiful journey together.

You're listening to the my morning Devotional podcast, episode 1022. Today's Devo is called Meek Mindset. Hey there.

00:00:10.997 --> 00:00:48.045
We're the Alessi's, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the my morning Devotional podcast. Happy Tuesday, everyone. Your host, Gabby Alessi for the week is coming back to you on this incredible Tuesday morning with my sister, Lauren. Lauren, how are you doing on this taco Tuesday? I'm doing good. I feel like whenever we're on this together, we have to mention that it's.

00:00:48.070 --> 00:01:12.427
Taco Tuesday, because every Tuesday, I'm like, I want. I want tacos. Do you know of any really good taco places in Miami? Can you send them to us? But we found that one truck, and that was. We did find a good. A good truck. But I feel like we should ask everybody, because maybe somebody on this, this world, in this world of my morning Devo knows all these places that we don't know about. Just don't send us back specifically in Miami. And specifically in Miami.

00:01:12.555 --> 00:01:29.203
Well, we're back for a great week. Lauren, you're talking about humility this entire week, and yesterday's was really powerful, and I know today is going to be even better. So take us into it for sure. So this one, this verse of the day is found in psalm 131, verse one.

00:01:29.864 --> 00:02:13.723
And it says, o lord, my heart is not lifted up. My eyes are not raised too high. I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. This is a psalm, of course. So David's writing it, and David goes on to say, but I have calmed and quieted my soul. And I was reading this, and I was like, this is so interesting how he's talking about, my heart is not lifted up. My eyes are not raised too high, and I'm not occupying myself basically with things that are too great, too big for me, and that I have no control over. And then he finishes it off, saying, yeah, and that has given me rest, and that has calmed and quieted my soul. When I was searching up verses for humility and, like, how to speak on this, this verse popped up, and I was like, wow.

00:02:14.144 --> 00:02:36.526
Humility takes a daily action and a daily mindset shift that you really have to be. Like, I'm choosing not to think on things that are out of my control. I'm choosing not to focus on something that's too great and that's too big for me. I'm choosing to walk before God with a humble mindset and with a humble attitude and. And really not to think too highly of myself.

00:02:36.669 --> 00:03:05.587
That takes a daily action in a daily mindset. And that's why I called this episode meek mindset. Yeah. Because that's what David's doing here. He's like, he's saying, my heart is not lifted up. My eyes are not raised too high. And again, I just think if Jesus, of all people, the actual son of God, came to earth and every day had to fight human emotion, had to fight human feeling, and had to die to that pride every day, when he, of all people, could have gotten away with it, right?

00:03:05.675 --> 00:03:31.304
Yeah. If he could fight that feeling every day. Okay. We have the power within us to fight that pride every day and to find humility. So I just really love that verse, but then also, I love how it ends with where it goes on to say, but I have calmed and quieted my soul. So there must be something in humility that brings peace. Yes. That when we submit things to God and we come humbly before him, that he gives us peace. That's so good.

00:03:31.383 --> 00:03:49.943
I just think that there's such a beauty in that verse, and it's psalm 131, one, that it's just so beautiful when it comes to humility. And I love that you mentioned the mindset thing, because I think a lot of when it comes to being a believer, being a Christ follower, a lot of it is changing your mind.

00:03:50.024 --> 00:03:53.680
It's renewing your mind. The Bible even talks about it. Renew your mind. Yep.

00:03:53.752 --> 00:04:04.424
And so for us and for the listeners, a lot of the practical ways to do these things is to just change your mindset. Instead of looking at the negative, look at the positive.

00:04:04.584 --> 00:04:11.774
Maybe you're physically drained. Maybe you're tired. Maybe you feel like you're wasting away or you're burnt out.

00:04:11.933 --> 00:04:57.444
But there is something, like you said, when you get to that point where you go, Lord, I am tired, but I'm just going to rely on you. When all else fails, I'm just going to trust in you, and I'm going to humble myself before you. Then there's something else that comes. It's almost like God gives you a second wind. And so there's something beautiful about it, but it's a mindset shift. It's a mindset. And I will just quickly add, there are some people who have everything you'd want beautiful family, beautiful house, beautiful cars, beautiful everything. And they're the most humble people you've ever met. And then there are some people who, not that they have nothing, but they don't have that much going on, and they're some of the most prideful people I've ever met. So it is absolutely an attitude and a mindset that you need to pray to God. Submit, say God. Where can I be more humble? I am nothing without you, Lord.

00:04:57.983 --> 00:05:01.564
Fill my heart, God. Fill my mind with good things, not negative things.

00:05:02.103 --> 00:05:35.067
So, anyways, well, remember the parable of the ten talents? I think it's the ten talents. No, the parable of the. The man, where. Where Jesus is telling you the parable of how, like, the master gave five to one, gave two to the other, and then gave one, and the one that had one talent, hit it. And it just shows you what you're saying of the person that doesn't have a lot can be the stingiest person because they don't have a lot, and they're trying to protect what they do have when you give and when you give it to the Lord, and the Lord will only give more to you because of your humility and your generosity.

00:05:35.216 --> 00:06:00.076
So that's a beautiful thing for all of us today. When you're going into work and you feel like you have nothing to give people, when you're a mom and you're going into another day of. Because now it's the summer, school is out, and now the kids are always at home and you want them out. Of the house as soon as possible. Well, now you have to make all the meals and figure out and plan activities, and you just feel like you're drowning in all of that. Change your mindset. Yep. Go back to humility.

00:06:00.139 --> 00:06:11.014
Go back to relying on the Lord and put yourself as the lowest person at the table, as Jesus says, and you'll see peace will be added to you and you will get a second wind in Jesus name. Yep.

00:06:11.093 --> 00:06:43.913
So pray us out. Lo. Yes, dear Lord, we just pray right now as we enter today and as we go throughout this week, for every person listening and for every person even in this room right now. We pray for a meek mindset, Lord. We pray right now for thoughts of we're not the smartest people in the room. We don't know everything. We don't need everything, God. All we need is you. We pray for these kind of thoughts to enter our mind. We pray for a meek mindset, God, and we just pray that pride be gone in the name of Jesus and for humility to start coming over us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Amen.

00:06:47.213 --> 00:06:50.694
