You're listening to the my Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1030. Today's Devo is called receiving the spirit. Hey there. We're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the my morning devotional podcast. Good morning and happy Friday, everybody. Hopefully you are on your way to work and this is the last day of the work week and you're about to celebrate your weekend. Or they have a new summer schedule and have summer Fridays. That's true. Maybe they have Fridays on. Maybe you're a teacher and you're like, summer. I don't know. Who knows? Or you're listening to this, like, on a Saturday. I don't know. Who knows? But in our time, it's Friday morning. It's very true. Okay. Anyways, I am Lorna Lessie. I'm joined by my sister, Gabby. Alessi, how you doing? Hi, Maddie. I'm good. I'm at the end of the week, things are a little bit loose. We're at the last one of the day. Let's do this. And Gabby chose to talk on the. Deepest topic I did for the last Friday. We've been recording quite a while now, and she's deciding this is the one that she's going to do the deepest topic. So, Gabby, take it away. I should have called this one. Turn or burn.

00:01:26.554 --> 00:01:30.290
I'm kidding. You can cut that out if you want. Okay.

00:01:30.322 --> 00:01:34.010
We're going to read from acts 238, and it says this.

00:01:34.042 --> 00:01:41.213
And Peter said to them, repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins.

00:01:41.554 --> 00:01:56.013
And this is the part that we want to highlight. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. So this is in response to another question that we got couple weeks ago from somebody from Chicago, and they were asking a couple questions.

00:01:56.054 --> 00:02:13.354
The. The two questions they had, we answered one we answered yesterday. So I wanted to do it in two parts, but she was asking. The second question was, how do you find your connection with the Holy Spirit? That advice is great, but how, from a practical, tangible perspective, how does one do these things?

00:02:14.174 --> 00:03:24.129
Now, again, I'm not the greatest, biggest prophet out there or teacher or evangelist or speaker. I think if you go to the word, go to your Bible, go do more research on your own. You can find some great resources for this. But from my perspective, I think acts 238 is a great start, because when I give a gift to somebody, there's a part of giving, but the other part of it is receiving. Lauren, if I were to give you a gift right now, but you left it on this counter and you never opened it up. You never. You never received it. You never saw it. You never, if it was a shirt, you never wore it. You know, you never actually made it yours. You never received that gift. And so part of it is you have to be welcoming and open and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. So this question that we have of how do you have a connection with the spirit, or how do you walk in the Spirit? Well, step number one is, are we filled with the Spirit? Have we received the gift that God has freely given us with the Holy Spirit? And I think acts 238 is a great little one, two, three step of how we receive that gift.

00:03:24.201 --> 00:03:27.674
You know, I think repentance is a word that people are kind of afraid of.

00:03:27.713 --> 00:03:35.102
People, they. They see it as a negative connotation, when really repentance brings freedom. I think it's a beautiful thing that we should receive.

00:03:35.258 --> 00:03:52.117
And so Peter tells the people, this is one of. I think this is the second group, if I'm not mistaken, that actually received the spirit after the disciples did. But Peter tells them, repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins, and then you'll receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

00:03:52.246 --> 00:04:27.812
So what he's telling them is, if you're going to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, you have to be in right standing with God. If you want to be in right standing with God, you have to repent and be forgiven of sins. We can't be walking in sin, living in sin, and expect the Holy Spirit to also be operating. The Bible talks about how the spirit and the flesh are always opposing one another. So for us, number one today, if we want to operate, if we want to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, then first we have to get it right with God. Wherever you're at, you could be the most christian person of all time. You go to church every Sunday. You lead a connect group.

00:04:27.908 --> 00:04:46.410
You're a leader of teams. There are still sins that we have to repent of. And so we start with repentance, and then we're baptized in the name of Jesus. We're forgiven of our sins. We ask for forgiveness and repentance. Then we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. And when we receive that gift, we make it part of our life.

00:04:46.521 --> 00:05:18.540
We ask the Holy Spirit to live in us. And so for anybody that asks that question of how do I walk in the Spirit, how do I live by the Spirit? How do I follow the spirit? Then number one, you need to ask the spirit to fill you. You need to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. You have to say yes to the Holy Spirit. And then number two, keep your ear out for the voice of the Holy Spirit. This is where we go back to reading your word. Open your word and let the Holy Spirit reveal things to you as you're reading this word.

00:05:18.651 --> 00:06:16.579
And then you'll see that you're walking in the Spirit. Go back to a few episodes ago. A couple weeks ago, we talked about how to know what's the spirit and what's the flesh. Well, once you've received the spirit, once you received that gift, you didn't leave it on the counter, you received it. Then go and listen to those podcasts and they can kind of help you break down how to walk in the Spirit. But for today, to answer this question of how to do it, practically, it goes back to let's be in right standing with God, let's be forgiven of our sins and, and let's receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. So I hope this blesses you today. I hope this encourages you for the week, and I'm gonna pray us out as we go into this wonderful weekend. So, Lord, I thank you for today. We thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit, and we thank you that you have given us the spirit to guide us in every decision, every opportunity, every season of our life. We pray over this entire week. God, we thank you for all of the revelation and the knowledge and the wisdom that you've poured into our hearts.

00:06:16.612 --> 00:06:30.343
God, I pray that you keep revealing new understanding God, unlock new understanding to all of our spirits and help us as we, we go into this next weekend. We thank you, Lord, for it. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

00:06:31.963 --> 00:06:35.427
So there you have it, your five minute daily dose of heaven.
