You're listening to the my morning Devotional podcast, episode 1032. Today's devotional is called guard your heart. Hey there. We're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the my morning devotional podcast. Happy Tuesday, everybody. My name is Stephanie, and we have a devotional prepared for you by my girl Rochelle. And it is called guard your heart. I'm so excited to hear from her because yesterday she spoke on your thoughts and making sure that you are always thinking about whatever is true, whatever is noble. So today, she has an amazing podcast prepared for you guys. Take it away, Rachelle. Yes. Thank you, Steph. Today, this verse is proverbs 423 to 25, and it says, above all else, guard your heart for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free from perversity. Keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead.

00:01:12.918 --> 00:01:31.731
Fix your gaze directly before you. And I just want to say that this week, entire week, is actually inspired by one of our listeners. And her question was, what to do when people that you really care about, you just have negative things sometimes to say or harsh words.

00:01:31.908 --> 00:02:16.114
And as I read that, I know that a lot of us listening might not have somebody saying something negative about you, but you might be just a negative environment or are going through just a hard season. And we, like we said yesterday, we can't change the other person, but we really could do something ourselves on how we handle it. And I love this verse because it sells to, above all else, guard your heart because everything we do flows from it. And we need to keep our mouth free from bad talk and perversity. And when you are sometimes in a hard time in your life or people are saying negative things about you, you're kind of getting through a rough season.

00:02:16.533 --> 00:02:50.774
Naturally, your first thing is, I'm going to be either negative or talk bad about the other person or just be negative about my situation right now. And we use our words to say how tired we are, how mad we are, how offended we are, how sad we are, and we don't use our words to say, I, no matter what, I'm strong to get through this today. And we don't use our mouths to declare the word of God over us and start to say, today I'm going to think of what's pure today, I'm going to guard my heart.

00:02:50.813 --> 00:02:54.581
We don't do that. Our first thing is to say, this sucks.

00:02:54.677 --> 00:04:00.554
So you start speaking negatively towards it. But this verse really instructs us and says to guard our heart. Amen. Because no matter what you're going through or how hard it is or even how harsh people can be, at the end of the day is on me to steward my life well, and I can't say I'm being negative because of what people are saying about me. You have to say, even though people are saying these things about me, I'm gonna think the right things, and I am not gonna do what they're doing. And the fruit of my life is not gonna be what they're trying to put on me. Yeah, that's not gonna be it. I'm different, and I get. I can get through this because I'm going to guard my heart. In the middle of this hard environment, I'm going to guard my heart. God is going to help me. And the way that I'm going to do that is by keeping my thoughts pure and meditating in the word of God and letting those things just wash over me every day. And in that way, everything that will flow from me in the midst of a difficult season will be good things.

00:04:01.014 --> 00:04:08.045
And I just love this verse because it's clear. And so I really just encourage everybody today, guard your heart.

00:04:08.110 --> 00:04:52.211
Amen. And, Rochelle, to back that up, if you are thinking, if you are choosing to actively rest on what is true, then you have to make sure that you at least are aware of what's false about you. And it's good to know, black and white, what is the truth and what is false, so that when you hear somebody saying something to you that you know is false, you can just, in the kindest way, toss those thoughts away, toss those remarks away, because you know what's true. And that's what makes you a strong guard of your heart. Because not only do you know what's true about yourself, but you know what's false and you know what doesn't impact you. But that's amazing. Can you pray us out? Yes.

00:04:52.267 --> 00:05:17.504
Let's do it. Thank you, Lord, once again for another day. And, Lord, we just thank you because we know who we are in you. And no matter our surroundings, Father, you still protect us. You still guard us. So I pray that this week, Father, you will continue to just bless us in every way and every step that we take, and that you will be with us even in the midst of hard times. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Amen.

00:05:18.244 --> 00:05:39.084
