You're listening to my morning devotional podcast, episode 1048. Today's devote is called mercy is greater than judgment. Hey there. We're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.

00:00:22.653 --> 00:00:51.902
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the my morning Devotional podcast. Good morning, everybody, and happy Wednesday. We've made it to the middle of the week, and it's been an amazing week. I hope that this week's devotionals have made you just feel a little lighter, because I feel like just from listening to them, Lauren, I just feel a little lighter this week. Yeah. So I love them, and I cannot wait to hear what you have today. Today is exciting.

00:00:51.966 --> 00:01:06.480
Today's gonna be fun. Yeah. So, the verse of the day is James 213. And it says, for judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy, mercy triumphs over judgment.

00:01:07.180 --> 00:01:39.138
And there's a song, I think it's by Bethel, and it says. It talks about this. For mercy triumphs over judgment. And to be honest, we would always sing it. And I was like, I don't really know what this means, but I like this song. And so I would always sing it, and I would never really know what it meant. And then as I was reading this, I had to read this verse over and over and over again, and I was like, I'm not picking up what this is really saying. Kind of what's funny. Everybody knows who's listening. I'm on a journey to learning Italian. Rochelle's joining me, by the way. But it hit me.

00:01:39.153 --> 00:01:57.951
I'm like, okay. Just like, the translation can get mixed up, and you have to sort of rearrange the words. Maybe that's what's happening in this verse that the Bible, not that it's ever wrong, but maybe I just am reading it wrong. My own translation of it is wrong. So I tried to read it over and over again.

00:01:57.975 --> 00:02:11.759
Then I was like, I got it. So then I was like, okay. In other words, what this verse is saying, from how I'm reading it, is, one who has shown no mercy, receives judgment without mercy. And I was like, oh, okay.

00:02:11.840 --> 00:02:26.538
Wow, this is really hitting me hard. So, basically, what the Bible is saying is, if I'm judging everybody and I'm showing no mercy, then in the end, I will receive no mercy, because I have done nothing but judge and give no mercy.

00:02:26.674 --> 00:02:53.364
I love how this verse is like, yeah, this is kind of a really tough point to make. But remember, mercy triumphs over judgment. Showing mercy will always triumph over just handing out judgment and making, you know, fast calls about people. It's funny because you can kind of see in the world today how, like, just the world will fight against each other. It reminds me of that, that story in the Old Testament, how, like, the army started fighting against each other.

00:02:53.412 --> 00:03:04.092
Sometimes you see that in the world today, how two big movements will start to come against each other and we'll start to fight against each other, and they show each other no mercy. No mercy. There's no grace.

00:03:04.235 --> 00:03:37.151
It's amazing to see how every time mercy triumphs over judgment, God's grace, God's mercy will always triumph over judgment. But as a Christian, we need to be reminded that if all we're doing is sitting in this sort of high and noble place of, well, we know everything and we can just sort of call, you know, a close call and be judging everybody and we're not showing mercy to anybody, then that's how we will be judged. And we need to remember there will. Be a day where we will be. Sitting in the seat of judgment and God will judge us. And if we haven't been showing mercy the whole time.

00:03:37.175 --> 00:03:44.295
Okay, well, how is God going to judge us? And that can be a scary thought. It can also be a convicting and a challenging thought.

00:03:44.448 --> 00:04:10.180
So just kind of want to remind everybody that mercy does triumph over judgment. That's great, because be triumph means that you won. So we all win when we show mercy, even if you're not receiving it. Yeah. Even when you give it, you are winning. Yeah. So let's just give mercy this week. Yeah. Can you pray for us? Yes, for sure.

00:04:10.219 --> 00:04:39.589
And one quick note I wanted to add was a lot of people can feel like giving out too much grace or mercy can make you look weak and like you're not strong. But the strongest thing Jesus ever did was die on a cross. Yes. Because he was showing us mercy and grace. So I just want to just leave everybody with that thought. But, yes, let's end with prayer. Dear Lord, thank you so much, God, for just the whole idea of mercy that you show us every day. Whether we think about it often or not.

00:04:39.629 --> 00:05:12.430
God, whether it's a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Lord, every day you're showing us mercy, from the little things to the big things. God, the only reason we are here today is because you showed us grace and mercy 2000 years ago, God. And we thank you for that. So, Lord, as we walk out today, and as we walk out the rest of this week, help us to judge a little bit less. Help us to have a little bit more grace and mercy towards other God, others, Lord. And Lord. Help us with this idea, Lord, that mercy always triumphs over judgment. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. Amen.

00:05:12.810 --> 00:05:16.290
So there you have it. Your five minute daily dose of heaven.
