Easy And Light

Easy And Light

What new insights did the analogy of the yoke for donkeys provide about our spiritual life?

In today's episode, our amazing host presents a touching reflection titled "Easy and Light," inspired by Matthew 11:30. On this day of remembrance for 9/11, Gaby includes all affected families in our prayers and delves into the deeper meaning of Jesus' words about His yoke being easy and His burden light. She explains that while our Christian journey involves work, we are never alone in carrying this yoke.

Join us for this uplifting five-minute devotional to feel empowered and reminded that, with Jesus, our burdens become lighter.

Enjoy your latte and strengthen your love for Jesus, one morning at a time.

You're listening to the my Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1093. Today's Devo is called Easy and Light. Hey there. We're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the my morning Devotional podcast. Happy Wednesday, everybody. Gabby Alessi, your host for this week, coming to you on a really special day.

00:00:36.719 --> 00:00:54.771
And it's special because we are remembering what happened over 20 years ago in our country on 911. And, you know, in our morning Devo today, we just want to include all the families that were affected, anybody that was impacted by this event, really, all of us. We just include you in this prayer today.

00:00:54.915 --> 00:01:06.156
And I believe today's verse and today's Devo is going to bless you because we're calling it easy and light as we're reading from Matthew 1130 in the NIv translation.

00:01:06.227 --> 00:01:47.739
And this is Jesus saying, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Now, I did some research because I wanted to go a little bit deeper in exactly what that means, because I think a lot of us believers, we hear this verse and we go, okay, that's great. But as a Christian, it's definitely not being. It's not easy and it's not light. The burden of Christianity sometimes can be heavy. We might feel like we're constantly battling against every other belief system and every other religion out there because it's not easy being a believer. It's not easy standing up for what is right and the truth and what our biblical beliefs say.

00:01:48.159 --> 00:01:54.983
So I looked at this a little bit more, and I wanted to look at the word yolk, because I don't know about you, but I just think egg yolk.

00:01:55.031 --> 00:02:08.879
So I'm like, lord, what does that even mean? But it doesn't mean an egg yolk. What it does mean is this was something that they would have placed. It would have been a wooden board that they would have placed on two donkeys across their necks.

00:02:08.960 --> 00:03:59.843
And the board would be the way that the donkeys would be connected. That way, when the donkeys would tread grain or they'd be plowing a field, whatever it was, it would keep them connected in order to do the work that they were given, the farmer would have given them. And so immediately what that showed me was the idea of us thinking Christianity is easy. And light. It doesn't mean that we're just sitting back and enjoying with a pina colada in our hand, resting and relaxing. No, it's to work. If the yolk symbolizes a tool for donkeys to go to work and plow, then that should show us that the yoke that God has placed on us, that Jesus has placed on us is given to us to work, that it's something that Jesus places over us to work. And what the yoke symbolizes here is the teaching. So the teaching of Christ, whatever the Bible says that's been placed on us, it's an easy yoke, or it's an easy burden on us in order to work. And then the second thing that was actually beautiful to me in this little passage, I know we're diving deep this morning, but is that the yoke is not just for one donkey, but it's for two, meaning we're not alone in this. When we are carrying this yoke, when we are carrying the teaching of Christ, the belief system, and what Christ did for us, guys, it's the good news. When we're carrying that in our lives, it's not just us by ourselves. If you look to the right or you look to the left, there's somebody carrying it with you. So it should be easy. Jesus says, my yoke is easy. My burden is light. And so for us today, we should thank Jesus for the easy yoke and the light burden that he has given us, and be reminded that you're not the only one carrying it. And ultimately, it's for us to plow.

00:03:59.972 --> 00:05:01.040
Ultimately, it's for us to build, share the gospel, and encourage others. So, Lord, we just thank you today. We bless your name, Father. I hope anybody listening, the family listening, we were able just to take something away today, Lord, that, you know, you've given us a mandate. You've given us a job to do. You've given us fields to plow, Lord, but you've made it easy for us. You've given us all the tools that we need. And the closer that we stay to you, God, the easier, easier it will get for us. So I just pray over everybody listening that you would remind them that what comes from you is easy and light as we continue to work hard in Jesus name. Amen. So there you have it. Your five minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
