00:00:04.488 --> 00:00:52.564
Today's Devo is called Gifts From Above. Hey there. We're the Alesses, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Good morning everyone and happy Monday. My name is Stephanie Munya and I am so excited to be diving into our series All About Gratitude. We are entering the holiday season. I am so ready. I'm sure all of you have already been celebrating with your pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin flavored cakes, pumpkin flavored cookies.
00:00:52.725 --> 00:01:14.971
Whatever it is, the holidays are upon us. So the best way to celebrate these wonderful holidays of thankfulness and of gift giving is to dive into our word. So that's what we're going to do. We are going to dive into the Bible and read scriptures all about gratitude. And I'm starting with Matthew 7, 9 through 11.
00:01:15.123 --> 00:01:22.411
As I read out these Bible verses, write down some things that come to your mind that you should be grateful for.
00:01:22.522 --> 00:02:27.627
It could be very difficult to remember these amazing gifts that God gives us in our lives, especially when life gets heavy or it is hard to find the good things in our life. But if you just ask the Lord to bring it to your mind, you'll start to recognize your family, your spouse, your house, the food on your table. Those are little things you can be grateful for. And if it comes to your mind as I'm reading these scriptures, write it down so that throughout the day you can continue to pray to God. Thank you for these things. So we're starting off with Matthew 7, 9, 11. Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone, or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him? Matthew 7, 9 is encouraging us that just like we would give our children good gifts, God gives us good gifts. And let's move over to James
00:02:27.691 --> 00:02:49.341
17. In the International version, it says, every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. So everything good we have in our life, every perfect gift, is from God above.
00:02:49.532 --> 00:03:04.425
36 in the NIV version which says, for from him and through him, and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen.
00:03:05.444 --> 00:04:23.285
These scriptures remind us that every perfect gift comes from the Father above. And our Father above wants to give us gifts. So Father, we thank you for the gifts that you give us. Sometimes it's hard to remember these gifts. Life can be stressful. Marriage can be stressful. The house life can be stressful. The work life can be tough. But you gave us these things and it is a gift you provide for us. And that is a gift. Our spouses, our family, our friends, they are gifts that come from you. So God, we put aside everything that could be stressing us out, everything that could be distracting us from being grateful to you. And we thank you Jesus. We thank you for viewing us as your children. We thank you for being a good father to us. Just like that song sings, you are good, good Father. You're a good Father and you are perfect in all of your ways. And the gifts that you give us are perfect. So we thank you Jesus. On this Monday morning we begin our week, thanking you for everything you give to us. And in Jesus name we pray. Amen.
00:04:23.944 --> 00:04:44.764
