Start With God

Start With God

Where do we turn when we start to feel uncertain or insecure—especially in the chaos of a busy day? In today’s episode, host Lauren Alessi invites us to explore the true meaning of confidence. Drawing from Jeremiah 17:7, we’ll uncover why real confidence isn’t found in fleeting things like accomplishments or the approval of others, but in trusting God’s unchanging word. Together, we’ll reflect on what it means to start our day by building our foundation on God, so we can walk through every season—big or small—with a renewed sense of assurance.

Join our community as we pray for the courage to trust God fully and seek our confidence in Him each morning. Let’s encourage one another in our devotion and grow stronger in faith, together.

You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1306. Today's episode is called Start With God. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.

00:00:22.239 --> 00:01:19.799
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Hello, everyone, my name is Lauren Alessi, and I will be your host for this week. And welcome to the My Morning Devotional Podcast. If it is your first time joining us, and for all of our faithful listeners out there, thank you so much for tuning in. Once again, we love your loyalty, your faithfulness to this podcast, and we just want to thank you. Okay, so this week I thought it would be nice to sort of talk about, like, have a theme throughout the week like I usually do. But I'd really love to talk about confidence. Uh, I think it's important that we talk about confidence because sometimes we can talk so much about contentment or, you know, releasing control, but maybe we don't talk enough about confidence, even in the little things, maybe in the big things. So today's scripture verse is Jeremiah

00:01:19.879 --> 00:01:31.140
7, and it says this. But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord whose confidence is in him. And I love this verse because I don't care who you are.

00:01:31.140 --> 00:02:22.509
I don't care if you're a man, I don't care if you're a woman. I don't care if you're an adult. I don't care if you're a child. We all struggle with insecurity. We all struggle with confidence. And the truth is, where we place our confidence really matters. If we place our confidence in the opposite sex, that's going to fail us every single time. If we place our confidence in, you know, the news, the housing market, and, you know, one day it goes up, one day it goes down, then that's going to fail us every single time. Maybe not every time. Well, let's be honest, maybe some days it's going to be really good and we'll get a jolt of confidence, but it's never going to sustain us. True confidence comes from the Lord. And this verse says this. Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord whose confidence is in him. When we trust God, when we place our hope and our confidence in him, we're considered blessed.

00:02:23.469 --> 00:02:30.590
When our foundation is in God and not just our Feelings, not just our feelings, are found in God, but our foundation.

00:02:31.310 --> 00:02:34.509
That's where we gain true stability over our lives.

00:02:35.069 --> 00:03:00.500
And true confidence is not found in some means of control like, oh, you know, I got work done, so now I feel confident. No, that's a little bit of control. True confidence is trusting that God is who he says he is and that his word is true and that he is faithful and that he is on the throne and that he is in control. That's true confidence.

00:03:01.300 --> 00:05:06.379
Confidence is not saying, oh, you know, I don't need to lose weight to look good, I just look good already. I mean, that's a bit of confidence, sure. But true confidence is saying, look, I am who God says I am. I am healthy. I am the head and not the tail, because that's who God says I am. Our true confidence comes by looking up, not within ourselves, trying to gain confidence from within ourselves, but by looking up to God. So again, regardless of if you are a man or a woman, regardless of if you are a teenager struggling with all these insecure feelings for the first time, or if you're in your 20s and you're like, I'm just so insecure about my life as a whole and I have no idea what I want to do with my life. Or if you're in your 30s and you're struggling with, you know, just being in your 30s. Although I heard your 30s are great. Besides the point. Whatever season of life you're in, if you're getting older and you're insecure about getting older, and even if it's not about age, maybe it's just about, I don't know, small things like your clothes, your hair, or maybe big things like you really want to move into a new season of life and you feel really insecure about the season of life you're in now. I just pray and hope for one thing over you that you're able to put your trust in God and your hope and confidence in him and not in things that don't last last. So let's pray. Lord, help us build our confidence on you. And Lord, teach us to trust you wholly holy and be dependent and trust you fully, God, not to trust ourselves, not to find confidence within ourselves or within external sources, God, but in your truth, God, in your word, God, and what remains to be true always. Lord, help us find our confidence in. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it, your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day. If you found value in this devotional, share it with a friend.
