A Personal Bodyguard

A Personal Bodyguard

In today's episode, host Lauren Alessi invites us to reflect on the incredible gift of wisdom as she continues her journey through the Book of Proverbs. She likens Proverbs to core exercises that are essential in every workout, emphasizing the necessity of incorporating wisdom into our daily lives. You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1227. Today's Devo is called Personal Bodyguard. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.

00:00:21.423 --> 00:00:32.473
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Happy Tuesday, everybody. Good morning.

00:00:32.561 --> 00:01:20.111
My name is Lauren Alessi. I am your host for this week and I am reading out of the Book of Proverbs. Again, like I had mentioned yesterday, the book of Proverbs is really something that it should just be in our everyday vocabulary and our everyday Bible reading. It's kind of funny. I feel like it is if you compare it to exercising. It's like the core exercise. It's something that is essential in every workout. The core workouts. It's essential in every workout. And that's how I feel about Proverbs and wisdom. It's something that we just need to incorporate every day. We need to be praying for it. We need to be reading some sort of proverb every week or every day. It's just so important. And when we neglect it, we go back to it and we realize how important it is. So that's why I wanted to read out of the Book of Proverbs for this week.

00:01:20.296 --> 00:01:53.134
Before I get into this week's episode, I want to do a quick shout out to Allie. Allie, if you're listening, Allie came to our church a couple Sundays ago and let us know that she's been a listener since Allison was on the show. She's been listening for, I think about four years. And she moved from Dallas to Miami and remembered we had a church in Miami and she's been visiting. So that has been so, so cool. So shout out to Allie, we have loved meeting you. And she, we actually sat next to her on Sunday at church. So that was super cool. Shout out to you, Ally.

00:01:53.262 --> 00:02:33.580
Okay, so let's get into the word today. It says this in Proverbs. Proverbs 2, 6, 8. Again, I'm reading out of the message version. This is also a continuation, by the way, of yesterday's verse. So it starts off a little odd. Yesterday's verse ended like this. Believe me, before you know it, fear of God will be yours. You'll have come upon the knowledge of God. Proverbs 2, 6, 8. And here's why. God gives out wisdom free. It is plain spoken in knowledge and understanding. He's a rich mine of common sense for those who live well. A personal bodyguard to the candid and sincere.

00:02:33.919 --> 00:02:41.496
He keeps his eyes on all who live honestly and pays special attention to his loyally committed ones.

00:02:41.687 --> 00:04:24.363
I really love this part of Proverbs. If you read Proverbs kind of consistently, you kind of see there's a theme here and it's constantly saying, go seek wisdom because God loves it. When you seek wisdom, don't go for the folly. God hates those who, who go for foolish things. And you just see this reoccurring theme and this is the beautiful part where it talks about how God genuinely loves to give out wisdom. And when we're not asking God for wisdom, he's like, why not? Look how this starts. God gives out wisdom for free. It is plain spoken in knowledge and understanding. He is a rich mine of common sense. Do you know somebody who just needs plain common sense for those who live well? A personal bodyguard to the candid and sincere. Do you need to be candid and sincere with God? Because this says here He's a personal bodyguard to those who are candid and sincere to Him. He keeps his eye on all who live honestly. That is so wise right there. Not just all, but all who live honestly and pay special attention to his loyally committed ones. It reminds me of a conversation I was having with a friend of mine and we were just talking about what we pray for our prayer life. That sometimes you're like, what do I pray for if I'm praying God for a specific thing, if I'm praying for, you know, a special calling that, that God has on my life that I know God's put there, a special desire, a special purp purpose. And we were talking about how we could start praying for insight and understanding into what God is doing in us even now. And one of my friends was like, but are we allowed to do that or do we have permission? And we looked in the Word, we're like, we do.

00:04:24.451 --> 00:04:35.466
We absolutely have permission to ask God for wisdom and insight and understanding into what's going on in our lives. And I love how this first starts. God gives out wisdom for free.

00:04:35.538 --> 00:04:39.189
He gives out knowledge, insight and understanding for free.

00:04:39.569 --> 00:05:23.634
And so if you're facing a situation in your life or you don't know what to pray for, you don't know how to face it, start asking God for knowledge, understanding and insight into what's going on and he will give it to you for free. He will answer your prayers. So let's pray out today with that. Dear God, we thank you for your word. We thank you for an amazing day so far, an amazing morning and God, if anyone is facing anything right now, God, I just pray that you give them courage and the right words to ask for insight, to ask for wisdom over their lives, God, to give them understanding, Lord, into what is going on in their lives. God, if they're not going through something, Lord, but they just want some more wisdom into their lives, more insight, more knowledge, Lord, I pray that you give that to them.

00:05:23.721 --> 00:05:47.899
In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
