Agree In Christ

Agree In Christ

What does true unity in Christ really look like? In today’s episode, host Lauren Alessi guides us through the timeless wisdom of 1 Corinthians 1:10, exploring the call to agree in Christ and overcome division within the church. Together, we’ll reflect on how submitting our opinions and disagreements to God’s Word leads us closer to perfect unity—even when our human nature wants to disagree. As a community, let’s discover how embracing God’s truth allows division to lose its power and brings us together in Christlike fellowship.

Come join us in prayer and devotion, as we seek God’s heart for unity and invite Him to reveal ways we can become more united as followers of Jesus.

You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1386. Today's episode is called Agree in Christ. Hey there.

00:00:11.199 --> 00:01:24.900
We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Hello, everyone, my name is Lauren Alessi and I will be your host for this week. And I know the theme of our month of October is overcoming October, and I hope it has been a good month and a blessing to you so far. And I'm excited to jump into this week's theme. So even though this month we're talking about overcoming October, this week we are talking about unity over division. And I think this is such a good topic. I think it's so needed amongst Christians. I think it's really just needed among churches, even right now, because you could sort of feel a divisive spirit amongst people, not just Christians, but amongst people, and to really look into what the Bible says about unity. So I'm excited to dive into today's Word. And we are talking about agreement in Christ. So Today's verse is First

00:01:24.900 --> 00:01:53.840
10, and it says this. I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. I feel like this verse, if we were to say it today, just like not knowing it's a Bible verse, people would be like, that's crazy. There's always going to be disagreements and it's okay to disagree. We can just agree to disagree.

00:01:54.480 --> 00:02:15.840
And in the past couple weeks, I have felt on my spirit just I honestly, I felt like the Lord has put in my heart. I felt like I've heard him say, lauren, there's no disagreement in my kingdom, there's no disagreement in the body of Christ. And I was like, what does that mean? Because I was always raised, it's okay to disagree, agree to disagree.

00:02:16.210 --> 00:02:53.169
And God's like, no, if you feel like something's off, if you don't understand something, if you feel disagreement or that you disagree with something because you're human, you submit that to me. You don't live with disunity, you don't live with disagreement, you submit it to me. And you submit to my Word and what I have to say about it. And the truth is found in the Word. The truth is not found in our opinion. The truth is not found in what we agree with or what we disagree with. The truth is found in the Word of God. The truth is found in Christ. And I think as a culture we've become so accustomed to. Well, I disagree because this is my opinion.

00:02:53.409 --> 00:03:15.330
Well, what you're saying is wrong, because this is my opinion. And I think it's very important, even if we have a strong opinion based off of our culture, based off of our background, that everything gets submitted to Christ, that everything gets submitted to the Word of God because we can't have unity in the church and we can't have unity amongst Christians where there's disagreement.

00:03:16.050 --> 00:03:34.930
So let me reread this verse because this is something that Paul would have written to the church, right? So this is something that Paul is writing to a church. Something that Paul would be maybe writing to our modern day church, saying, I appeal to you brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

00:03:35.650 --> 00:05:04.170
So let it be done under the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. And maybe that seems completely impossible, but here's the thing. Paul reminds us that unity isn't optional, it's a calling. If we want to be Christians, if we want to be Christ followers, if we want to go to church, we have to be united. When Jesus is our focus, when we only focus on Jesus, on God, on the Word of God, on the Holy Spirit, we, when we submit our feelings, our opinions, our fleshly thoughts and things that we think, when all of that gets submitted to the Word of God, then division, it loses its power. It doesn't have power anymore. And maybe you're listening to this and you're already starting to disagree. Maybe as soon as I said, disagreement is not allowed in the kingdom of God, you're like, I disagree, then you know what? I pray some part of this podcast episode is already starting to warm your heart to what God is trying to say, that we cannot be united amongst churches, we can't be united amongst Christians where there is disagreement. And it's not that right now, in this moment, you have to get on the same page and completely agree with everything I'm saying. But it's that you say, hey, I disagree with this, but let me read the word, let me go back to what the Word of God says, and that's how we find unity.

00:05:04.550 --> 00:05:19.110
Because it's impossible to think that all of us humans who have our own thoughts and opinions because we're human are going to be on the same page. But unity is found when we submit our thoughts, when we submit our opinions to the Word of God. Because that's where truth is found.

00:05:20.230 --> 00:05:38.660
Let's pray. Dear God, we thank you so much for your word, Lord, because it's meant to sharpen us. It's meant to make us better. And Lord, you never promised that the Christian life was an easy one. So forgive us God, if we we think that living the Christian life and following you is easy. Because it's not. It's meant to sharpen us. It's meant to make us better.

00:05:38.980 --> 00:05:46.100
But Lord, we are called to be united. We are called to be united Christ followers, Lord, so help us to do that.

00:05:46.500 --> 00:06:04.750
Show us our ways that we might be causing division. Show us ways where we might be causing disagreement, Lord, and help us submit those ways to your word and your will. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today.
