Call Him Emmanuel

How does knowing God prepares paths ahead comfort you during tough times?

Today, we'll switch perspectives and examine the birth story from Joseph's point of view as described in Matthew 1:18-25. We'll delve into the striking differences between how the angel communicates with Mary as opposed to Joseph, and we'll uncover the powerful messages behind their responses. We'll also reflect on how God's divine plans are at work in our own lives, even when we can't yet see them unfolding.

Join us as we find inspiration and reassurance in knowing that just as God prepared the way for Mary and Joseph, He is also preparing a way in our lives.

So grab your Bible, your favorite morning beverage, and let's dive into today's devotional titled, "Call Him Emmanuel." Let's lean in, be encouraged, and strengthen our faith together!

You are listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1159. Today's Devo is called Call Him Emmanuel. Hey there. We're the Alesses, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.

00:00:21.881 --> 00:01:00.850
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Good morning everybody and happy Thursday. My name is Lauren Alessia and I have been your host this week talking about the birth of Jesus Christ. And it's so interesting. It's like I feel like I should just be talking about the birth of Jesus Christ, but we have talked about so much in such a short amount of time. But I love it. I feel like it's been fun. Please let us know how you feel about this week, how you're feeling about these episodes, because we just love your feedback and we always love, you know, encouraging comments, anything you have to say.

00:01:01.003 --> 00:01:07.179
So today we will be reading in Matthew. Actually we've been reading out of Luke. Now we're going to go to Matthew

00:01:07.227 --> 00:01:10.322
18 through 25.

00:01:10.459 --> 00:02:35.835
Again, ESV, it's just my personal preference. Follow along with whatever preference you like, but ESV is just one that I personally like to read out of. And we're actually going to be getting Joseph's perspective. So now we've past couple days been getting Mary's perspective and now we're going to be getting the perspective of Joseph the father, the earthly father of Jesus. Let's dive into it now. The birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way when his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph. Before they came together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being just a man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet. Behold, the virgins shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which means God with us. When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him. He took his wife, but knew her, not until he had given birth to a son and he called his name Jesus.

00:02:36.655 --> 00:02:54.889
So a few things I want to point out just reading this quickly, is that I find it so funny. The difference between what the angel tells Mary, a woman, versus Joseph, a man, and Mary is kind of like a little bit more dreamy. What he tells Mary, this is what I'm going to do with your son.

00:02:54.937 --> 00:03:34.967
This is what's going to happen. And Joseph, notice how the angel gets straight to the point with Joseph. Joseph, don't fear. Take Mary as your wife. She will bear a son. You're going to call him Jesus, and he will save his people from their sins. Done. That's what you're going to do, Joseph. And what I so appreciate about Joseph is that he does it. He wakes up. He woke up from his sleep, and he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him. But notice how Mary had sort of this more dreamy, whimsical command from an angel. And she was like, this is going to happen. This is going to be beautiful. She takes time to celebrate with her cousin or Elizabeth, and that was all beautiful.

00:03:35.031 --> 00:04:31.533
And notice Joseph's response. The angel comes to him, do A, B and C. He wakes up from his sleep and he does A, B and C. And I just want to say, I think that's amazing about how men are created. They are told A, B and C, and they do A, B and C. So I just want to say I think that's really, really cool of Joseph, and that's not pointed out enough. But another thing is this. We've been talking a lot about how Mary's processing her journey and how she's going to approach Joseph about this. I'm a virgin, I'm married, or I'm engaged to Joseph. How am I going to confront him about this? And notice how God already takes care of it. Notice how the angel already takes care of it to where Mary doesn't even have to worry about it. So apply that to your life. Maybe you're worried about something. How am I going to take care of this? How am I going to tell this? How am I going to take care of this financially? How am I going to cover this with my family? How am I going to get with everybody at the holidays?

00:04:31.668 --> 00:04:35.389
And especially with the way the US Is looking right now?

00:04:35.437 --> 00:04:54.939
How am I. Or if you're listening from a different country, how am I going to get everybody together at the holidays with the way our country is looking right now? I don't even want to talk about anything right now. Notice how God went before Joseph and Mary and already took care of it. God spoke to Joseph and said, hey, you're going to do this, take care of it A, B and C. And Joseph already took care of it. So be reminded of this.

00:04:54.987 --> 00:05:35.795
This holiday season and in your life. God is going before you and preparing a way. You're not going to see it. You're not going to be aware of it. Mary didn't see it until Joseph woke her up the next morning and took her until it's in God's timing. But rest assure this God is preparing a way for you. I'm not saying that's easy to believe. This is something I personally have to walk out by faith myself. It's very hard to believe, but that's what we are. To do as Christians is to have faith and believe that just like the angel did with Joseph, God is preparing a way in your life for things you cannot see just yet. So let's pray.

00:05:36.175 --> 00:06:20.500
Dear God, thank you so much. That Lord, you are a God that is in everything and is everywhere. You're not just a God to Mary, you are a God to Joseph as well. And you are a God to Elizabeth and you are a God to Zechariah. And Lord, we thank you so much that that is the type of God you are and that you're not just a God to us, you're the same God to the people all around us, Lord. So we just pray right now that we have faith in believing you are preparing a way in our lives, God. And we pray that Lord, you just build our belief right now in Jesus name. And again we refer back to the episode that when we build our belief, God, you will consider us blessed. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it.
