Feed Your Sheep

Have you ever wondered how the small tasks in your life build up to conquer the giants? In today's episode of My Morning Devotional, host Richelle Alessi reflects on the story of David from First Samuel, Chapter 17, uncovering the powerful lesson of tending to the little things in life. Richelle shares how, even before facing Goliath, David faithfully took care of his father's sheep, highlighting the importance of stewarding small responsibilities as they pave the way to triumph over larger challenges. As she revisits this story, Richelle encourages us to recognize our own "small things" as vital stepping stones toward our bigger dreams and goals.
Join Richelle and the Alessi Family for this meaningful devotional, and together, let's pray for the insight and dedication to nurture our daily tasks, trusting that these small acts of faithfulness will lead us to greater victories.

00:00:29.245 --> 00:01:09.349
Good morning, everybody, and welcome to a new week of my morning Devotional podcast. My name is Rachelle Alessi, and I get the privilege of being with you this week. I'm very excited. I was actually talking about it before I jumped in, but I realized that the last one, the last podcast, the week that was supposed to be mine, I actually shared with my husband because he had some amazing things that he had just been processing about living your life to the fullness with God and just effective faith. And I wanted him to share that so much. And so I brought him in and we did that week together. And so it's actually been a little bit since I've been in the podcast booth by myself, and a lot of things have happened to our family.
00:01:09.390 --> 00:01:35.384
As you guys know, Gabby got engaged, and so you've heard a little bit about that story, and that's been amazing. And we're so happy for Gabby in this new season. And so it's an exciting season for all of us, and we are so blessed that you guys get to write it along with us. And so today I'm going to be reading from First Samuel, chapter 17, verse 15. And this week we're actually going to stay just in First Samuel, Chapter 17.
00:01:35.471 --> 00:02:26.472
Because last Wednesday I woke up and I read this. This. I just wanted to go back to reading this story. And it's the story of David. And many of us have heard the story and read the story, and I've read the story multiple times, but I don't know what happened, guys. That Wednesday morning, I was downstairs by myself. My son still was sleeping, so it was like the perfect environment. I had my coffee, which you guys have been buying so many coffees. So again, thank you for that. But it was such a great morning. And I just opened up my Bible, read it, and I just really felt like I read the story for the first time. And so when it came to this week, I knew I wanted to do this story. And I just want you to know that as I'm doing these devos, this Week I'm processing this, so I hope that we get to read the story together and just get something new from it and something fresh.
00:02:26.536 --> 00:03:22.301
But you guys know the story of David, and he was the youngest of many sons, and he was anointed king, but he still had to do his job. And the verse that I'm. I'm starting with is the verse it says, but David went back and forth from Saul to tend his father's sheep at Bethlehem. And a little bit before, the story is just talking about what everything that was happening at the time. There was a war between the philistines. And for 40 days, the Goliath has been going out to the battlefield and scaring the army of God. And he had been saying all these things, and the army of God was so afraid. And in one of those days, his father just asked David, go and just take food for your brothers. But what I love about this verse is that David would go back and forth, and he would do what his father would ask, but he would go back to his job.
00:03:22.485 --> 00:04:03.638
He never thought that tending his sheep and feeding his sheep was a small job. He traveled. He did what his father asked. But before, we know the grand story, so I'm not spoiling anything, but before he had to defeat the giant, he still had to do the little things. And I was so encouraged when I read that that I'm like, David would travel, and he didn't have a bike. There was no cars. He either walked or ride his donkey. Whatever his transportation was, he made sure that he was doing what his dad would ask, and he would go back and take care of every single sheep. And that just encouraged in my life to see. I know I have dreams. I know I have giants I have to conquer.
00:04:03.734 --> 00:05:09.327
There's big things in my life that I have to conquer, but I will not do that well, if I do not take care of the little things in my life, of the small projects, of the small things that nobody sees. But I know that those are my responsibility. Those sheep were David's responsibility. And even though there was a lot happening and there was a big season, David knew he had to take care of his sheep. And so I just encourage you guys today, today, that even though there's big things in your life that we have to conquer and we have to do that, we don't let go of the small ones because those small things build up to the big one. And we actually get to conquer the big things because we take care of the little things. See the little things as building blocks and not as just things that don't matter. And so I just encourage you today, what are the little things in your life, the small responsibilities, the small challenges, the stuff that you've been putting off that you know you have to go back to and take care of just as important as the big ones.
00:05:09.423 --> 00:05:50.774
So let's pray today. Dear Father God, we just thank you for another week. We thank you for your fresh wind and your fresh spirit. I pray that this week as we open up your Bible and we read your word, Father, that you'll give us new eyes, new years to see what you truly have for us. And so I pray, Father, that your anointing will follow and that we will be able to see how many things, Father, we can still take care of the small things in our life that you have given us that we have to steward. Well, Father, show us those little things so in that way we can build up to the big things. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today.
