You're listening to My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1143. Today's Devo is called Fulfilling his Purpose. Hey there. We're the Alesses, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Good morning, everybody and happy Wednesday.

00:00:33.033 --> 00:00:44.104
Welcome back to the podcast. We're going to continue talking about gratitude and today I actually want to read the entire chapter because it's not very big.

00:00:44.225 --> 00:00:54.773
It's only eight verses. So I thought, why not sit down, read it together? I do want to focus on the last two verses because those are wonderful.

00:00:54.969 --> 00:02:14.805
But I was like, you know what? We have the time. Let's read the entire chapter together today. So if you have your Bibles, take it out. Maybe we can sit down, read this together. Or if you're driving, that's okay. You can just listen to this. Psalm 138 says, I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart. Which reminds me of Monday with my whole heart. Before the gods I sing your praise. I bow down towards your holy temple and give thanks to your name, for your steadfast love and your faithfulness. For you have exalted above all things, your name and your word. On the day I called, you answered me. My strength of my soul, you increased. All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O Lord, for they have heard the words of your mouth, and they shall sing of the ways of the Lord. For great is the glory of the Lord. For though the Lord is high, he regards lowly, but the haughty he knows from afar. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me. The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me. Your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.

00:02:15.224 --> 00:02:37.161
This is such a wonderful chapter, and it's actually called Give thanks to the Lord. And it says that it was written by David. And if you know a little bit about the Bible, you know all the highs and lows that David would have gone through, but he never failed to write psalms and songs that was about giving thanks to God.

00:02:37.312 --> 00:04:24.504
And even in this one, he says, though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. We heard all the times that David had to run from people, he had to hide in caves, he had to do the hard things. But he was a testament to God preserving his life for God, being with him at all times, and for the Lord being the one who fulfilled his purpose for him, not just him, but the Lord. And in return, what David is saying, I'm going to write a song that I get to remember the things that God has done for me. But then I also go and thank him. Which just honestly brings me back to Monday when it says we have to remember the things that the Lord has done. And maybe today you need to sit down and not write a psalm like David, but open up your journal and start writing down all the times that the Lord never failed you, the times that you remembered the Lord preserving your life, the times that you remember God steadfast love being there for you and delivering you and providing for you. And as we start to write all those things down, you just start to praise God because you can't help but say, thank you Lord, for all the things. And honestly, for even the things that we don't get to see. Because sometimes the Lord does things on our behalf that we will never see, but he does them because he loves us. And so our response should be a thankful heart. So I encourage you today, open up your journal at whatever time. Maybe it's your lunch break, maybe it's at night, maybe it's really early in the morning, but just write a few things that you remember the Lord doing for you and just thank him for it. So let's pray today. Father God, thank you so much for your steadfast love and for your mercy.

00:04:24.665 --> 00:04:28.449
Thank you Lord. Because you promised to fulfill your purpose in us.

00:04:28.497 --> 00:04:32.112
Father, you say that this is what you are going to do.

00:04:32.209 --> 00:04:46.697
You also say in here, Father, that you will preserve our life. That means that you are going to be with us and give us exactly what we need each day to do your will. So Father, we thank you for today. In Jesus name we pray.

00:04:46.841 --> 00:05:09.165
Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
