You're listening to the My Morning devotional podcast, episode 1186. Today's Devo is called goals for 2025 obedience.
00:00:10.960 --> 00:00:29.141
Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven.
00:00:29.295 --> 00:00:44.649
This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Good morning, everyone. My name is Stephanie Molina, and thanks for tuning in to My Morning Devotional podcast today. I am going to do something special this week, if you don't know. My father is my pastor.
00:00:44.729 --> 00:00:48.345
He is a pastor at our church here in Miami, Metro Life Church.
00:00:48.457 --> 00:01:18.085
And this past Sunday, he spoke an incredible, incredible sermon. And as I was listening to it, I thought, this is a perfect podcast theme. So it's all about my goals for 2025. But it circles around the story of Jericho. If you're unfamiliar with that story, the story of Jericho starts with these people, the Israelites, needing to take over this city called Jericho.
00:01:18.278 --> 00:01:39.900
And in that time, military strength was what you used to take over another city. Well, God did something different. And he ordered the Israelites to march around the walls of Jericho for seven days. And on the seventh day, they had to march around it seven more times on that seventh day.
00:01:40.200 --> 00:02:01.081
And when all the marching was done, God commanded them to shout. And when the Israelites shouted in unity altogether, the walls were crumbled and they were able to take over the city and be victorious. And it's a beautiful story in the Bible. It's been told so many different times, you're probably familiar with it.
00:02:01.266 --> 00:02:12.150
But what it has it is speaking to me today is I need to be totally and completely obedient to God's word for my life.
00:02:13.250 --> 00:03:23.409
You know, it's an unconventional strategy, what God told the Israelites. Again, the military strength was a massive asset in those days. If you wanted to be a strong nation, then you needed a strong military. So for God to come in and say, hey, for if you want to be victorious in this, then you just have to go march around the walls and shout a little bit. That is insane. For God to direct that, that is unheard of. But you know what the Israelites did? They obeyed even to the smallest detail. They trusted God's plan and obeyed. If we want to experience true success with extraordinary outcomes, then our faith in God requires total obedience, even when the path isn't clear. Or it doesn't make perfect sense. You know, whenever I've tried to do something my way, it always leads to the wrong place, with the wrong people and at the wrong time, which usually ends up with me being exhausted because I was pushing my way. And it leaves me disappointed.
00:03:23.750 --> 00:04:43.970
My, my dad said yesterday, whenever we use Waze, the the navigation app or Google Maps and it tells you you're going to get there in 15 minutes, but you think, oh, if I take the shortcut, it'll take me a faster way. It always adds on more time and more inconvenience. But that's how it always happens in my life. If I try to do something my way, it always takes me to the wrong place. But God's way is always the better way. And if God says to follow his path, then my obedience needs to follow his path to this very small detail. And when it comes to something as important as your life, we have to refuse the temptation of cherry picking the Bible. We can't discard the verses that we don't agree with and only take those that we do agree with. Again, that's taking my way of following God and not his way. And remember that partial obedience is disobedience because it demonstrates a lack of trust in God. Let me remind you, Proverbs 3, 5, 6 says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Let's pray today.
00:04:44.350 --> 00:04:48.149
God, it is sometimes hard to trust you.
00:04:48.269 --> 00:05:05.882
Especially when we can't see what you're doing in our life or where you are leading us. But that is where we speak right now. We trust you. We put aside our fears, we put aside our doubts, we put aside our insecurities, and we just trust you.
00:05:06.065 --> 00:05:16.841
We lay down all of those fears on your altar this morning. And we obey you. And we trust you. You know the desires of our hearts more than we know those desires. Jesus.
00:05:16.985 --> 00:06:21.949
You know us better than we even know ourselves. So this path that you're leading us down, it's a path that is set for a reason. These commands that you've given us, like you commanded the Israelites to march around the city of Jericho, we step into those commands and we obey those commands because there's a reason for them. And we trust you, Jesus, with every fiber of our beings. We trust you. We trust that you will give us whatever it is we need, but at the right time. And we love you, Father, and we worship you. And we start today in some small way, obeying your commands and in Jesus name we pray. Amen and Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day. If you found value in this devotional, share it with a friend, leave a comment or review for us on the app you're using right now. Until tomorrow, we pray that your latte is strong, but your love for Jesus is stronger.
