You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1206. Today's Devo is called God is Love. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.
00:00:22.143 --> 00:00:40.600
That's why we've partnered with our friend Alison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Happy Monday, everybody. My name is Lauren Alessi. I will be your host for this week and we will be talking on the topic of love.
00:00:41.060 --> 00:00:44.844
So I'm going to be completely honest with you. I love love.
00:00:44.932 --> 00:01:42.605
I think it's fun. I think it's great. I love watching all the cheesy movies and TV shows. I love all of that. But when it comes to the Bible, talking about God's love, it's a little difficult for me. And I think part of that is because I heard it so much like, God is love. I don't know, it was just said a lot and there was like so much about love growing up that I just kind of wanted to be challenged more in my walk with God and in my word that sometimes when people bring up God's love, I feel like it's a dumbed down topic. And I know that sounds terrible, I know that sounds terrible, but this is a very challenging week for me and I'm just being honest about my feelings towards this topic. And maybe you feel the same. Maybe you can relate to that.
00:01:42.757 --> 00:01:50.073
Maybe you're like, I actually feel the opposite. I don't think we talk about God's love enough on this podcast. And you know what, you're probably right.
00:01:50.262 --> 00:02:46.360
So anyways, I just wanted to share that. That's just kind of something I struggle with. But I'm glad we're talking about this because we should be sharpened and challenged by things we struggle with. Okay, we will be reading out of First John, chapter four, verses seven through 21. All week. We're going to be taking two verses a day. So today we're going to be reading out of verses seven through nine. And it says this, dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. I especially love that verse because it says, for love comes from God. Love isn't this earthly thing we see on Netflix. Even though, again, yeah, I love those shows. But we, we see it and we're like, oh, that's so cute. I want that. But that's an earthly kind of love. True love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Verse 8.
00:02:46.479 --> 00:02:57.431
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. I find it interesting here that the Bible's almost referring to love as like a person.
00:02:57.616 --> 00:03:53.060
Verse 9. This is how God showed His love among us. He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This verse especially I love, for lack of a better word, I love because we've all had that point where you really like somebody or maybe you're dating somebody and your parents come to you or a friend comes to you and they're like, yeah, they're saying all the right things, but are they doing the right thing? Are there any actions behind what they're saying? And you really have to ask yourself, you're like, that's so true. And maybe they are. Maybe they are following up with actions or maybe they're not. And you have to sort of to meet yourself with that truth. But here's the thing about God's perfect love. Not only does he talk about it, not only is he love, but he also follows it with all of his actions. His actions are done out of love. One of those actions being the very cause for our salvation.
00:03:53.400 --> 00:04:01.008
This is how God showed His love among us. He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him.
00:04:01.144 --> 00:04:34.362
I don't know about you, but I don't know anybody in my life that would give up their one and only child so that I could be saved. But that is the God we follow. And that is a perfect example of his perfect love. So we will be talking more about this perfect love this week. I hope it inspires you, I hope it challenges you, and maybe I hope you just enjoy listening to it. Let's pray. Dear God, we thank you for your perfect love. And we thank you God for all the doors it opens in our lives, including our salvation.
00:04:34.425 --> 00:04:42.026
God, and we thank you for an amazing week to come. We pray it is full of life, laughter and ultimately love.
00:04:42.098 --> 00:05:06.100
