Holidays From Heaven

How can you spiritually prepare to be a peace-bringer during the holidays?

In today’s episode, Stephanie shared some profound insights from James 3, with a particular focus on verses 17-18. These verses remind us that the wisdom from heaven is pure, peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere. As we gather with friends and family this holiday season, let’s strive to embody these qualities, spreading peace and kindness in all our interactions.

So grab your latte and get ready for your five-minute daily dose of heaven. Let's get started!

Hey there. We're the Alesses, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast.

00:00:29.588 --> 00:01:13.253
Good morning everybody and Happy Wednesday. Stephanie is here again. I'm so excited for this Saturday because our big gift to all of our My Morning Devotional community is finally going to release. We have been preparing this. We recorded it a few weeks ago and we've been editing it to perfection. So November 30th this Saturday, mark your calendars. We have a gift that will be on YouTube, so if you haven't subscribed to our YouTube page, go and do so. Follow us on Instagram and I also want to encourage you. We've been reading a lot of scripture this past month and we want to know what has your favorite Bible verse been? Text us.

00:01:13.388 --> 00:02:24.284
DM us. We want to be in communication with you. We love to see what it is that impacts you guys. So do you like the Bible verses? Do you like all the scripture reading and which verse has impacted you the most? Share your stories with us. Text us. We want to hear from you guys. Well, I'm going to continue in our scripture reading. This has been so encouraging to me and James 3 starts off by talking about the tongue and how we speak, but I really want to focus on verse 17 and 18. So I'm going to read the whole chapter, but I'm going to really put some emphasis on the last bit. Let's do it. James 3 Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.

00:02:24.585 --> 00:03:13.538
Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what A great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body sets the whole course of one's life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind. But no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil full of deadly poison. With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings who have been made in God's likeness out of the same mouth. Come praise and cursing my brothers and sisters. This should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring, my brothers and sisters?

00:03:13.627 --> 00:03:17.338
Can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs?

00:03:17.467 --> 00:03:35.221
Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water. Who is wise and understanding among you, let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.

00:03:35.372 --> 00:04:04.104
Such wisdom does not come down from heaven, but is earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. And this is my favorite part, verse 17. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure, then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

00:04:04.525 --> 00:05:06.125
Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. Oh my gosh, I love this verse so much because it goes against everything the world teaches us. To pay back insult with insult, to cut off those that are mean to you that that speak down to you to. To pay back insult with insult, to cut off those that are rude to you, to just isolate those that are a little jealous of you or have that selfish ambition. But the word says peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. I know how hard this could be, especially when you wholeheartedly disagree with somebody. I know how hard it is to bite your tongue and not set them straight or give them that insult or get straighten them out with your words. But if you want kindness in your family and amongst your friends, if you want unity, then you have to be the first to sow that.

00:05:06.504 --> 00:05:39.730
So be encouraged. Step into the dinner on Thanksgiving and speak words of mercy, of consideration, of peace loving. Be agreeable. I know that's crazy. I know that's crazy. But just be agreeable. If the conversation goes down a way that you don't necessarily agree with, just turn the conversation to another topic and bring peace. Because if you start to sow words of peace and of love and of kindness. Watch.

00:05:39.843 --> 00:06:13.942
The Word will prove to be faithful to you and you will start to see that kindness and peace and that unity come right back to you. But be the first to initiate it. And I know it's hard, but with the Holy Spirit in you, you could do that this holiday season. So again, write down this verse, James 3, 17, 18. Carry it along with you everywhere you go. Speak it over you as you're with your family in the morning of the holidays. And make this your mantra during the holiday season.

00:06:14.119 --> 00:06:32.206
Let's pray. God, we thank you that your word is true when it says that when we sow seeds of kindness that we will reap a harvest of righteousness. And Father, we want righteousness. We want to be kind to our family. We want to make you proud.

00:06:32.350 --> 00:07:12.266
We want to bring peace to our families. We want our family to see Jesus in this holiday season. We want them to one day see your glory and be brought right back to you. So God use us. Let us be a vessel of kindness to our families this holiday season. And even though it's hard, we lay down our offenses, we lay down our disagreements. We lay down the things that could make us angry, Father. And we pick up your cross, Jesus, and we think on the good things about our family and our friends. We think on the good things of this season. We think on the things that you have given us.

00:07:12.370 --> 00:07:15.654
Not the things that are taken away, not the things that are wrong.

00:07:15.954 --> 00:07:42.076
We put our minds on you, on whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is righteous and whatever is pure. That's what we think on this holiday season. And we thank you Father for all you've given us. And we pray that as we go into the holidays tomorrow, that we will be the peacemakers who sow in peace so that we can reap a harvest of righteousness. And in Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it.

00:07:42.141 --> 00:07:53.141
Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day. If you found value in this devotional, share it with a friend.
