00:00:32.612 --> 00:02:47.286
We've made it to the middle of the week, and I really hope that this week's devos are really blessing you. As I'm rereading these verses, they're just making me so excited about life all over again. And so. Oh, and let me just say, my name is Rashelle Lessie, and I'm your week, your week's host this week, and I'm so happy to be with you. I encourage you guys to take what we're talking about this week and get a couple of your friends together over coffee at your house and just talk about it. Because this story, it is so powerful, the story of David and what we can get from it. And in real time, what we can take and apply into our lives really can make a big difference. And so I just encourage you get people together and talk about the word of God, because it's really the best word we can talk about. Instead of talking about somebody else, how about you talk about the word of God over coffee? I promise you that's going to be more edifying. And so let's get into today's devo. But again, we're building up. We're just going through the entire story of First Samuel, Chapter 17, and we've talked about how David did his responsibilities to care of the sheep. And then yesterday we talked about, because of that, he was able to step in and say, and have the courage to say, I'm going to fight this giant. Because he knew the truth. He knew the word of God. And today I want to talk about David's humility and how that humility actually is what gave him confidence to go fight that giant. And sometimes we're facing giants and we think that, that we just wish we had this confidence because we see all these people with this big, big confidence. And you're like, how do they get that? And can I tell you, reading the story showed me that the reason David had the confidence to fight a giant was because of his humility. And that humility is proven in 1st Samuel 17, chapter 37. And it says, and David said, the Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of the Philistine. And Saul said to David, go, and the Lord will be with you.
00:02:47.437 --> 00:03:34.780
I love that. David didn't say, guys, the reason why I can go after this giant is because I killed the bear because I took care of the sheep. The truth is, is even though David did that with his bare hands, imagine you in front of a lion and a bear and fighting a lion, a bear, over a sheep. It's not like David was fighting a lion and a bear for his life. The truth is he was fighting the lion and the bear for the sheep. So he fought some of these big animals because he was taking his responsibility so serious, which is what we talked about on Monday, which is still crazy to me how this all just ties together. But he says, the Lord delivered me. He does not say, look at what I can do.
00:03:34.900 --> 00:03:38.475
He says, look at what God has delivered me from.
00:03:38.627 --> 00:04:15.830
And because of that, I have confidence that the Lord will deliver me again, not because of my ability, not because of my talent, but because of what the Lord can do. But David's taking his responsibility seriously. And God's promise of, I'm going to be with you and I'm going to deliver you was a testament to David to say, I really, truly can do anything. But David's humility to say, I've seen God do it over and over and over again, and even though I might be physically strong, God is the God who can do it all.
00:04:15.870 --> 00:04:34.101
And I cannot do anything without God. I can do things, and I can do them well. But when God gets involved, when I get God involved, when I do things for him, he is the one that truly delivers me from the bear and from the lion. And because of that, the king had confidence.
00:04:34.165 --> 00:04:40.838
And the king said, go. He had an army. Saul had an army.
00:04:41.014 --> 00:05:14.271
And the army of thousands of men were afraid and could not move. And Saul did not know what to do. And a teenager who was serious about what God had given over his life knew and had spent with God so much time with God that he knew the lies of the giant, said, I can go and do this because the Lord has delivered me. And that not only was the confidence that David had, but it's the confidence that then it gave to the king to say, go, and the Lord will be with you.
00:05:14.375 --> 00:05:18.103
Because the king saw how the Lord had been with David.
00:05:18.271 --> 00:07:02.172
He did not see what David could do. He saw what the Lord had delivered David from and that's what gave the King confidence to say, David, go. And so my prayer for you today is that we spend some time seeing and just remembering what the Lord has delivered us from. The truth is God is too good for us to not think about everything that he's already done for us and has really, truly saved us from. And so today our hearts need to be turned into a grateful, into a remembrance of what the Lord has done. And let there be one encourages you and gives you confidence that whatever is to come, the Lord will deliver you from. And that's why you get to operate in confidence in your everyday responsibility and your everyday battle and in your everyday whatever you have to do. Because the Lord Lord is with you like the way that he was with David. So let's pray. Father God, I just pray today that you will just bring to us to remembrance the things that you have delivered us from. And that in that Lord, we just in awe and humility. Thank you. Because we realize that we cannot do anything without you and that every great win and opportunity that we've ever gotten, Lord, has been because of, of your goodness and we have stepped into it. But the truth is you are the one who opens doors and you are the one who delivers us. And we are just grateful today that you have brought us to where we are today and for your goodness and for everything that you have given us. And so we truly humble ourselves before you and we say not our will, Lord, but your will be done in our lives.
