Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Ecclesiastes 3:1 which says "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven"
"I have had this worship song by Cody Carnes on repeat all day! According to Spotify he has 1.4 million monthly listeners and this song along had like 50 plays from me. I encourage you to listen to it right after this devotional.
There is a line that he says, “I’m sorry when I come with my agenda, I’m sorry” and man that just got me thinking of all the times I start my prayer time with Jesus by asking for something, rather than for thanking him for something.
Have you ever done something for someone? Maybe you work in an environment where your work is important to the success of the client or the organization. Maybe you just finished helping someone with a huge project at school, or you just took some heavy lifting off of someone else’s plate.
And then when that person comes to see you instead of thanking you for your service, your work, your help, they said “Hey, can you help me with something else?”
I am sure you would be exhausted, maybe a little heart broken. Maybe you would have felt unseen.
We do this every single day to Jesus.
We come with our problems, we come with our agenda’s, and we don’t take a moment to thank Him for everything He has given us. God isn’t interested in our agenda’s, he just wants us. He wants our unconditional trust and love.
Like this verse says, for everything there is a season, and a time for ever matter under heaven. Your time to own a home, its coming, It’s just not now. So start thanking him for the home you currently live in. Your time to be a parent? It’s coming. Your time to be a ______ fill in the blank, it’s coming, but right here, right now all we need to do is come to Him with thanksgiving."
