You're listening to My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1191. Today's Devo is called New Thing. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida.

00:00:14.199 --> 00:00:29.292
And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast.

00:00:29.435 --> 00:01:36.831
Good morning, everybody and happy Monday. I am Rachelle Alessi, and I get the privilege of being with you guys this week. I feel like I haven't been here with you in a while, but it's probably because we got the privilege of being with Allison for the two weeks of January. And so now here I am, and I'm excited for this. I was actually talking about some of the verses before recording, and I was like, they're simple verses, but they're verses that are good to kind of have in the back pocket that you will need all year that are just good reminders. And I hope that these just set you up for the rest of the year, for the rest 11 months. Because, yes, January is basically over. Can you believe that? And so I want to just leave you this week with some good verses. And I'm actually keeping it to one or two verses. I know we were going big during Christmas because it was big stories, but we're back to our five minutes and one or two verses a day, so let's jump right in. And today I have Isaiah 43, 18, 19. And it says, remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.

00:01:36.936 --> 00:02:21.840
Behold, I am doing a new thing now. It springs forth. Do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness, in rivers, in the desert. I know that this is a verse that we all have probably heard before, but I think this is a verse that we should remind ourselves, especially right now, that as the new year begins, there's a lot of things in our past that we sometimes carry into the new year. And here at our church, we do something that I love, and it's called the reset service. And what this service is is that we actually put urns in the front of the stage and we write in a white sheet of paper things that we want to leave behind in 2023 or 2024.

00:02:22.699 --> 00:02:39.960
And we write them down and then we go up to the front and we burn those things. And it's kind of a physical sign of, like, we are going to leave these Things behind. And sometimes I would struggle because I would be like, I'm a Christian, you know, I'm not perfect, but I'm not, like, committing big sins.

00:02:40.460 --> 00:03:35.358
But I really felt the Lord say, but there is mindsets, there is habits, there is thoughts. Maybe there is a feeling and attitude that we've had that we have to leave behind. And so I just encourage you guys today that if you haven't spent some time this year, maybe the year started and boom, you were right at it again and a busy schedule. I encourage you to stop and think about what are some things I want to leave behind this, this new year. As I step into the new things that are, hold. Have held me back in the past that are not going to hold me back this year. And if you're like, you know, I don't really know what those things are. What if you sit down and you pray and you ask the Lord, what are some things that you see that are holding me back that I might not be seeing? Because I had to even ask my husband, hey, what are some things you think I've been doing that could hold me back this year that they shouldn't be?

00:03:35.493 --> 00:04:41.995
Maybe it's your mom, your dad, somebody that's close to you that you trust that you can say, hey, guys, what are some things you think that I can truly leave behind this year so I can step into the fullness of what God has for us. Because the truth is, this verse says that God is doing a new thing, and you and I have to be ready to be part of that new thing. And we do not want to let our mindset, we do not want to let our feelings or our emotions or even just an attitude keep us from what God is doing. Because God is always doing a new thing, and he wants to do a new thing in us. And we just have to be ready. And sometimes our mindsets can prevent us from seeing that. So this year, how about we all commit together to say we're going to hold each other accountable and we're going to write things down. Maybe you could do it in your own way and you can write those things down on a paper and you can either throw it away or do something that symbolizes, I'm leaving this behind because I'm going to be a part of what God is doing this year. So let's pray.

00:04:42.108 --> 00:05:14.894
Dear Father God, thank you for giving us another year of life. As this month comes to an end, Lord, I pray that you will start stirring up in and your people things that we should leave behind. So we can step into the fullness of what you have for our lives. Because we know, Lord, that you are working in us. And there is miracles. There is jobs, there is families, there is friends. There are people that are waiting for us to step into the new because you have big blessings waiting for us on the other side. In Jesus name we pray.

00:05:15.021 --> 00:05:37.160
Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
