You're listening to the Mind Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1174. Today's Devo is called Not a Habit But a Harvest. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.
00:00:22.143 --> 00:01:08.433
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Good morning, everybody, and happy Thursday. Welcome back to another episode of the My Morning Devotional Podcast. My name is Allison. I am the founding host of the Devotional podcast. I'm so excited to be here with you guys this week and next week as we kick off 2025 together. And if you've been with me for a long time, or if you've been with the show for a long time, you know that every January we typically go over this series or these next couple of weeks where I'm going to talk about not creating habits, but thinking about the harvest that comes out of it. Because we're in that new year season.
00:01:08.522 --> 00:02:39.824
We are talking about goals, we are talking about resolutions, and we want to change and get better. That is the cycle of every year, and it should be the cycle of every day. Really, our mindset should be to always do a little bit more every day, to just get better, to continue to sharpen, to continue to grow closer to God. And last year I handed the show off to the Alessi sisters and they've done a great job. And I'm so honored to be here with you guys to kick off this year and I'm excited to bring it back to our roots. So that same phrase that we've been talking about for the last couple of years, so today we're going to be in Romans, chapter 12, verse 2, and it says, do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve that God's will is his good, pleasing and perfect will. And I label today's evil not a habit, but a harvest. As we kick off the next couple of days talking about how we can change our perspective, we can change our day to day so that we can continue to grow closer to God's good and pleasing and perfect will for our lives. So the idea behind that phrase is that, yes, today and over the next couple of days, you're going to be writing your list, you're going to be Writing your goals. I know that I do that every single year. And we're going to be thinking about what we want to achieve, we're going to think about what we want to do, and we kind of get lost in these. Like, I have to do the gym.
00:02:39.872 --> 00:04:25.860
I have to go to the gym every single day, Monday through Friday, for the next four weeks so I can establish this habit. And the reality is that you're not looking to go to the gym every day for four weeks to lose weight. You're looking to go to the gym so that you can live in the harvest of the future, of living in a healthier body. So if you change everything that you're trying to accomplish, whether that's in your prayer life, whether that's in your physical life, in your physical body, maybe that's relationally, maybe that's financially and saving. Whatever your goals are, don't look at them as habits, but look at them as the harvest that you're reaping. And I really love this verse. It just reminds us that our minds are so powerful. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind so that you can test and approve. If it's God's will for you, if the fruit of the harvest that you are looking to achieve and that you are looking to enjoy, if that is good fruit, then it's good good. It's God's will. If it's bad fruit, then why are you trying to start a habit that will cause bad fruit? And in the reverse, if you have bad fruit in your life from the years previous or the days previous, then look at the habit that created that fruit. Because you're walking in a harvest that's not God's perfect will for your life. So it can work both ways. We're going to talk about it more as the days come, but I just want us all to be ready to tackle the year. Not habit focused, but harvest minded. Think about what we're going to get out of it. Think about what God wants for you this year, what God wants for you this day, and then take it on that way. So the prayer for today, Father God, we thank you Lord for this Thursday.
00:04:25.980 --> 00:05:28.220
We thank you for this new year. And we thank you that the dreams that you've given us, the goals that we have in mind, they're not just habits, God, they are harvest. We have fruit that we're looking to enjoy and the fruit of our lives, we just pray that they are your good and perfect will for us. We pray that when we test the fruit, we see that it is good and that it is what you want. So Lord, as we continue to create our resolutions, Lord, let us continue to stay harvest minded. We thank you that you are so gracious. We thank you that you lead us in the right direction. We thank you that you open doors. We thank you that you are so, so good. So we are going to be good and we're not going to conform to the patterns of this world. We're going to test what we do. We're going to look for the harvest, we're going to look for the fruit, and we're going to follow your will. So we pray this all in your Son's mighty name today and every day. Amen. So. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today.
