You're listening to the my morning Devotional podcast, episode 1042. Today's Devo is called Outdo Honor. Hey there. We're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.
00:00:22.166 --> 00:00:33.070
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the my morning devotional podcast. Hello, everybody, and happy Tuesday.
00:00:33.189 --> 00:00:51.365
I'm your host, Lauren Alenci, once again, joined by my sister Rochelle Alessi. Good morning, everybody. Good to hear from you again, Rochelle. Yesterday was awesome, and I'm excited to hear more from you this week. Thank you. I also just want to remind our listeners, we talked about it a little bit yesterday, but please, always, we love to hear from our listeners.
00:00:51.398 --> 00:02:19.680
So we always have the text line on Spotify, on all of the listening apps, you can reach out to us. But specifically, like, if you're from out of the country, out of the state, we want to know who we're reaching, who we're impacting. We just love to know. So we could sort of call out our listeners from Chicago like we have in the past, and then we mentioned listeners from the Philippines. So please let us know. We even like to keep you in prayer. Right? So please reach out on the text line, on Spotify, on the apps. We would love to hear where you are listening from. Yes. Okay, so, Rochelle, what is the verse for the day? Today, we're gonna do romans 1210, and it says, love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. I love this verse because here at our church, marital life church, one of our main things that our pastors, Pastor Steven Mary, have shown us but have modeled and done is honor. And we know that even in our family, that honor is a big thing. It's not something that we play around with, but it's also something that we have seen modeled. And now we get to say we want to honor because we have seen it modeled. But I love this verse because it says, outdo one another in showing honor. And, you know, when you have friends and especially when you're younger, you wanna outdo each other.
00:02:19.759 --> 00:03:04.192
Whether who has the best shoes? When you were young and there was trendy shoes and you were like, well, I got em first. I remember when I had converse and I had the ones all the way up to my knee, and I'm like, I outdid every girl because I got the ones over my knee. And it's like a competition almost. But I think this verse shows us healthy competition because it says that we have to love one another. So our friends, our family, so the people around us, we have to love them with brotherly affection, but we have to show them honor. And we have to have a competition to say, I'm going to outdo you in honor and showing you honor because I respect you, I care about you.
00:03:04.295 --> 00:03:11.419
And this is what the Bible tells me to do. Because when we do that, we honestly have healthy relationships.
00:03:11.599 --> 00:03:44.014
Naturally, we get to have one, a better view of everybody because we're going to say, no matter what, I'm going to show you honor. And we have a healthy respect for anybody that's older than us that we say, I can't just walk into a room and think that I'm the biggest deal or that I know the most because I'm a certain age. I'm not going to do that. So I'm going to walk into this room and say, who can I show honor? And that might look a little bit different, the way they shoot. You show honor to your parents or your elders.
00:03:44.062 --> 00:04:50.235
It's different than maybe how you show honor to your friends. But either way, having honor at the front and saying, no matter what, all my relationships, I'm going to honor them. And I'm going to have this healthy competition of like, I'm going to do you an honor. I'm going to just show you honor in all the ways that I can. Will encourage us to just have healthy relationships. Totally. Totally. I love that. And I love how even the Bible's like, brotherly affection, outdoing each other in honor. Because when you think of brotherly affection, you think of a natural competition there, a healthy competition there. So you're like, hey, yeah, maybe as christians, we should have a healthy competition of outdoing each other in love and respect and honor. It's sort of a perspective I've never thought about. So thank you. That was great. Will you lead us out in prayer for the day? Yeah, let's do it. Dear Father God, thank you once again for another great day. Lord, we just want to ask you that you'll show us how we can honor the people around us, Father, help us see the importance of honor and how we can have better relationships by approaching everything with honor.
00:04:50.348 --> 00:04:57.764
But we also say that we're going to live lives, Father, that honor you, it first starts with saying, we are going to honor you first above all.
00:04:57.851 --> 00:05:01.596
And everything else will flow from that in Jesus name, we pray.
00:05:01.747 --> 00:05:23.860
Amen. So there you have it. Your five minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day. If you found value in this devotional, share it with a friend, leave a comment or review for us on the app you're using right now. Until tomorrow, we pray that your latte is strong, but your love for Jesus is stronger.
