You're listening to the my morning Devotional podcast, episode 1045. Today's Devo is called Overcome Evil with Good. Hey there.

00:00:10.582 --> 00:00:33.036
We're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the my morning Devotional podcast. Happy Friday, everybody.

00:00:33.107 --> 00:00:35.719
We made it to Friday. You made it to Friday.

00:00:36.579 --> 00:00:47.508
Congratulations. You did it. Whether you're a mom who's been at home with her kids all Friday, or whether you've been working all week, congrats. Just take a little cheer. Celebration for yourself.

00:00:47.683 --> 00:00:51.420
You did it through a long, long week. So congratulations.

00:00:51.579 --> 00:01:09.885
But, Rochelle, you have just killed it. You've smashed it this week, and I'm excited to hear the landing to this awesome ride. So why don't you read us the verse for today? Let's do it. So we actually are ending with the last verses of this chapter of romans twelve, and it's 1219 through 21.

00:01:09.918 --> 00:01:21.010
And it says, beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the wrath to God, for it is written, vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord. Do the contrary.

00:01:21.129 --> 00:01:42.706
If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he's thirsty, give him something to drink, for by doing, you will heap burning coals on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. This is such a hard verse to read, even for a Christian. Yeah, yeah.

00:01:42.858 --> 00:01:49.579
Because they're given right here we have instructions on how we have to overcome evil.

00:01:49.879 --> 00:02:41.533
And sometimes we think that overcoming evil is by, like, doing this massive thing, by standing up for your beliefs and going to all these marches and doing all these things publicly. And you. Or like we said yesterday, like, you have to get your point of opinion, your own opinion. Yeah, exactly. Cause you're like, this is how we bring lightning. We have to bring light to these situations by doing it this way. But that the Bible says that the way that we do that, the way that we actually overcome evil is by doing good, and we have to do the opposite of what the world does. That here it says do the contrary, it says that we have to feed our enemies if they're hungry. And in these terms, in these days terms, it doesn't mean I'm going to give legit someone, probably food.

00:02:41.662 --> 00:04:21.970
But it does mean that if somebody that does not have the same belief as me or opinion as me, I'm not going to go hate you, but I'm going to love you and I'm going to, like we talked about yesterday, I'm going to speak blessing. I'm going to be with my words on how I do things. I'm going to do them differently. I'm going to do it by the way that the word says, and I am going to love my enemy. It does not mean that I succumb to their beliefs. If they're not biblical, does that mean that we say, oh, well, then I'm going to have grace for you with belief? That's not what it says. Saying the way that I approach you, the way that I see you is not hating you. It's not my. Not seeing you against me is by saying, because I know what the Bible says. I'm going to feed you, I'm going to give you clothes, meaning if you need something, I'm here for you. If you ever are in the place where you need a friend, even if we don't see eye to eye, I have the love of God to be a good friend to you at that moment, and I'm gonna give you what you need. I'm gonna do my best to do that. And it says that we have to overcome evil by doing good. And so if we are in a situation that there is some evil involved or things that are not easy, the way we overcome it is by doing good, not by doing the same thing that the other party might be doing to us. Because as christians, we actually get to see the bigger picture because we get to see through the spirit. We don't see the little things that are the petty things that are the things that worldly people will focus on and create all this evil.

00:04:22.269 --> 00:04:28.776
But we see the bigger picture, and we know that at the end of the day, we have to honor God. And so how are we going to do that?

00:04:28.807 --> 00:05:02.872
By overcoming evil with good. And that good is us doing what the Bible says. Yeah, absolutely. And I will say this is, this is a verse and a concept in the Bible that even I sometimes I always have to pray and ask the holy spirit for discernment on. Yeah. And even to our listeners, if it's something that you're like, what I would encourage just praying for discernment over, especially because what is considered good and evil, maybe in our state, in our city, in our country, may be so minuscule and is nothing in.

00:05:02.935 --> 00:05:21.735
If you're from South Africa, if you're from the Philippines, right? Like, if you don't know this, Rochelle's from Costa Rica. And sometimes Rochelle tells stories of her upbringing. I'm like, how was that allowed? So, all of us come from different backgrounds and different, you know, rules and regulations. And so it just important to always refer back to.

00:05:21.807 --> 00:05:51.351
We all have different thoughts on what is good and what is evil, but we need to be pointing back to the word and what God considers good and what God considers evil. So if it's a concept maybe you wrestle with, it's so important to lay that on the altar and ask God to give you insight. So I love that you brought this to light, because it's true. We live in a time where there is so much good, but also much evil, but it is important to also bring it to God and pray for wisdom and discernment in that area.

00:05:51.456 --> 00:05:55.184
Yeah. So, Rochelle, will you please pray us out for this week?

00:05:55.232 --> 00:06:42.351
An amazing week. Yes. Let's do it. Father God, we just want to thank you for an amazing week. And we just ask you right now, like one said, that you'll give us just wisdom to approach this verse. Father, we pray that you also just give us wisdom in applying this verse to our lives, Father, and that you, holy spirit, will reveal to every listener what you want to reveal to them through this verse, Father, and through your word. Because ultimately, Father, everything comes from you. So we just pray that you all also give us the courage and the ability to just do good, to bring anything that bring good in every situation that we walk into, Father, because we know you. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen. Amen. So there you have it.
