You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1155. Today's Devo is called Prepare for Completion. Hey there. We're the Alesses, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.
00:00:22.009 --> 00:01:43.123
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional podcast. Well, welcome back to the final episode. This week as we finish off and bring it to completion. The idea of being prepared for this season and the topic of we're looking at John the Baptist and we're looking at his life, his parents life, and how he made a way for Jesus. And I think it's great for us to see, you know, how can we prepare the way for Jesus? And we're going to look at how the story kind of comes to completion today and we'll jump into it. I'm back, Gabby. I'm back. It's me, Gabby, and I always forget to introduce myself, but it's really awesome. This has been a great week and I've really enjoyed sharing with you all. And yes, we're in a different environment. Usually we're in our podcast studio, but we're on vacation right now. So we're going to wrap up this whole week looking at Luke 3. And we're actually going to pick up in verse 2, and it says this. The word of God came to John, son of Zechariah in the wilderness, verse 3. He went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah. The prophet, a voice of one calling in the wilderness, prepare the way for the Lord. Make straight the paths for him.
00:01:43.299 --> 00:02:08.854
Every valley shall be filled in, and every mountain and hill made low. The crooked ways shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth, and all humanity will see God's salvation. This. There's a reason why I wanted to use this verse. Obviously what we're reading, it doesn't sound that much like completion, but if you're looking at who would have been reading this book at the time or who Luke would have been sharing this information with.
00:02:09.435 --> 00:03:41.152
If you're, if you're going back at the people and the crowd, it would have been Jews that would have read these scrolls in, in the book of Isaiah, they would have read these words and these prophecies, right? So they're coming out and these disciples, they're telling people of who John the Baptist is and in the way that they're doing it. They're going back to the prophecies and they're saying, hey, this man, this is the one that Isaiah the prophet said would prepare the way for the Lord. Because people at the time didn't believe Jesus was the Messiah. People today don't believe that Jesus is the Messiah. So they had to go back to the prophecies and show them the completion of the prophecy was John, the completion of the prophecy was Jesus. And so this is encouragement to me because every time I doubt if God is going to do what he said he will do, I read a verse like this or I look at the context of this verse and I go, wow, God, if you did it back, then you'll do it today. This whole story is a picture of prophecy being fulfilled. This is a picture. The whole picture or the whole story of Jesus coming to earth is a picture of a prophecy being fulfilled. If we ever get nervous or if we ever doubt if God is going to do what he said he will do, if he's going to fulfill the promise that he made to us or the prophecies that he made to us, just go back to Jesus being born.
00:03:41.248 --> 00:04:13.676
Just look at the manger. If God promised His people a Messiah and even told them, I'm going to send someone that's going to prepare a way and I'm going to send him in the manger, he's going to be lying and swaddling clothes, lying in the manger. He made these, the. These prophecies and these promises to people, and then he did them. That is just a sign that if God did it back, then he will do it again for me. If God did it for John the Baptist, if God did it for Elizabeth, if God did it for Zechariah, he can do it for us.
00:04:13.781 --> 00:05:12.985
Today we can see the prophecy coming to completion. So if there's anything we learned from the whole week that we've been talking about, first, let's remember that God did what he promised to his people. God did. He fulfilled the promise in bringing His Messiah, bringing the Messiah, Jesus to them. And second, let that encourage you. If God has promised you something, he's going to do it. He will bring it to completion, whatever it is. Right now I want you to think about maybe a promise or a prophecy that you've had spoken over you. Maybe it's healing, maybe it's your marriage being restored. Maybe it's family coming home, whatever that is, whatever promise God made to you, I want you to put all your faith in. God will do it. God will bring it to completion. He is faithful to do it. If he did it back then he will do it again.
00:05:13.404 --> 00:05:32.052
God, we thank you for your faithfulness. We thank you Lord that when you say something, you don't just say it. It doesn't just go out into the atmosphere and disappear. No Lord, when you say something, it puts a stake in the ground. And Lord, it's just a just. It's a timer of when you're going to bring it to completion.
00:05:32.108 --> 00:06:28.254
The timer starts of when that day is going to come. And we're believing that. Lord, whatever you have promised us, we will. Whether it's this year, next year, or the following, whatever it is, God, whatever day you have on the calendar for us to experience the promise being fulfilled, we will have faith in it. Because you are going to do it. We thank you for it. Lord, prepare in us everything that this season means. Prepare us for this season to testify, to bring light to people, Lord, just to prophesy over people. Prepare it in us. Jesus name. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day.
