RHR — Receive His Rest

RHR — Receive His Rest

Do you ever find yourself feeling drained and in need of true rest? In today's episode, host Gaby Alessi takes us on a journey to find genuine rest in a hectic world. Inspired by Matthew 11:28-30, Gaby shares her personal revelation of mistaking temporary rest for the divine rest offered by God. After an exhilarating youth conference, she reflects on feeling overwhelmed and the realization that true rest does not come from sleeping in or disconnecting with our devices. Instead, it comes from seeking solace in God's presence. Gaby provides practical steps to finding this spiritual rest, whether it's through prayer, worship, or simply turning to God during stressful times.

You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1235. Today's Devo is called RHR. Receive his rest.

00:00:10.000 --> 00:00:28.217
Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven.

00:00:28.384 --> 00:00:50.917
This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Welcome back, everybody. Happy Friday. It is basically the weekend and I hope you guys have enjoyed these last couple of devos. This has been a powerful week and I pray that it's encouraged you. I pray that it's challenged all of us. I feel like, man, every time I get in here and do an episode, I find myself, like, praying for me.

00:00:50.973 --> 00:01:33.079
And because of, I feel challenged. So I hope, you know, you. You and me both, we're both feeling this challenge and we're both feeling just the Lord. The Lord reveals some things. And it's funny because this devo, I've named it RHR because I don't know if there's another definition of rhr, but we know that saying of R and R, right? Like, I just need a little bit of R and R. And this is something that I struggled with at the end of last week or beginning of last week because we had our youth conference and it was absolutely amazing. We had so many kids come out. The services were incredible. God really did a great move in the lives of young people. We baptized 10 kids after the conference.

00:01:33.159 --> 00:02:29.669
It was. It was really, really amazing to see what God did. And because of that, it was such a high that I faced on Monday and Tuesday of last week. I faced a really low, low emotionally. I was drained. You know, when it came to work, I was like, I don't. I don't have the vision. I don't have the excitement. I don't know what to do next. The. The to do list wasn't calling my name like it usually is. And I came to a point where I'm like, I need a day off. And I started to think, I need to just go in. I need some R and R. And for me, I found myself looking at, I need to sleep in. I need to get on my phone. I just want a day with no interruptions. And I actually find myself believing that R and R rest and is it rest and relaxation? I think that's the singing, but I believe that that's true rest and that's gonna invigorate me and help me get my myself back on my feet to continue working when I don't focus on where rest truly comes from.

00:02:30.050 --> 00:03:42.562
28 30, it says this. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. You see, I was tired after last week, but I started to find myself mistaking rest in things that don't bring me true rest. It might be temporary rest. It might be something that feels good in the moment, but we all know when you sleep in, you almost feel even more groggy all throughout the day. When I doom scroll on my phone, I feel even worse throughout my day. If you don't know what doom scrolling is, look it up. It's very interesting. We all end up doing it. No matter how old you are, we all doom scroll. But I had to read this verse. I found myself saying, God, I need something. I need to find something in you. Because I was really getting agitated. Why? Because I wasn't truly resting. And you see, it's a great reminder that God is our resting place. God is our place of comfort, and we need to rest in Him.

00:03:42.665 --> 00:04:34.079
It says, all who are, all who labor, all who are heavy laden, I will give you rest. You see, rest from God comes freely. He. He wants to give us rest. He wants us to give us that peace and that comfort. And so we need to go to him and say, lord, I need your rest. And sometimes that looks like just opening the word of God and reading His Word. Sometimes that's just putting on a worship song and abiding in his presence for a couple of minutes. Sometimes that looks like saying, lord, I need your rest. You know, sometimes I've prayed. I know it might be wacky, but I'm like, lord, I need. I need a great night's sleep. So God, give me rest from you. I don't want the melatonin rest. I want the godly rest. I want the heavenly anointed rest. And man, I will go to sleep and dream dreams of, like, heaven. I swear it has happened. You can call me weird, but try it yourself.

00:04:35.009 --> 00:05:42.538
We need to remind ourselves that our rest comes from Him. We live in a very stressful world. If you live in Miami, man, there's not one second of your day that you're not hustling. You're hustling to get out the door to beat traffic. You're hustling in traffic when really you can't go nowhere. You're stuck in traffic, you got to sit in it. You're hustling to the gym, you're hustling back from the gym. You're hustling to get to Trader Joe's because it fills up at a certain hour and you don't want to miss out on all the good food. You're hustling to get your kids to school, you're hustling to get to church, you're hustling to get somewhere on time. In Miami, people, we never get on time. Our day is constantly about hustling. We are constantly at an all time high of stress levels. So we have to remind ourselves to take a minute and find our rest in God and whatever that looks like for you. Waking up in the morning, spending time with him, going to sleep at night and spending time with him, whatever that looks like. Maybe it's going away on a vacation, putting your phone away and really having a moment with the Lord. Our rest comes from God. We need rest for our souls and that rest we can find in Jesus.

00:05:42.713 --> 00:06:26.766
So, dear Lord, I thank you for the rest that you give us. I thank you that you are our resting place and our comfort and our peace. And I pray that all of us run to you when we are weary, when we are heavy laden, when we have labored. Lord, some of us are taking care of loved ones right now where we can't even think about our own schedule. We're thinking about theirs. Lord, some of us are having. We have a house full of kids and we can't remember the last time we got a good eight hours of sleep. Father. Some of us maybe just had a newborn baby or we have teenagers, God, and the last thing we can think about is ourselves in this seat. And so I pray God that you would give them your rest. Not eight hours of sleep rest, but a heavenly rest.

00:06:26.838 --> 00:07:00.627
A rest that comes from you and your hand, Father, that you would cover their lives in your rest. And I pray that all of us would come to you, that we would draw near to you so we can find that rest. I thank you for it, Lord. I praise you, Lord. I lift up your name and we thank you for it. God. I thank you for this week. I thank you that you've encouraged us, Lord, that you are reminding us every day to set our eyes on you. I pray that we never give up. I pray that we take ownership, Jesus, that we serve you with humility and that we receive your rest.

00:07:00.764 --> 00:07:27.189
We thank you for it all. Thank you for this weekend. Let us use this weekend to find rest in you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen and Amen. All right everybody, have a great weekend. Find your rest in Jesus. And thank you so much for following along in this incredible past week of devos. I love you all. Stay tuned for next week. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today.
