Seek First

What are some daily habits that help you seek God's kingdom first?

Happy Friday! In today's episode, titled "Seek First," draws inspiration from Matthew 6:31-33, where Jesus himself reminds us not to be anxious about our lives but to seek first the Kingdom of God. Dive in with us as we explore the importance of differentiating between wants and needs, and why prioritizing God brings everything else we need into our lives.

You are listening to the my morning Devotional podcast, episode 1120. Today's Devo is called Seek first. Hey there. We're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the my morning devotional podcast. Happy Friday, everyone. My name is Lorna Lessie. It has been so much fun hosting this week with you all, and I am just really excited to close out this week with such a classic verse. I hope you know where I'm going with this awesome verse of the day. And that says seek first. And it says this. Therefore, do not be anxious, saying, what shall we eat?

00:00:51.119 --> 00:00:58.460
Or what shall we drink? Or what shall we wear for the gentiles? Seek after these things, and your heavenly father knows that you need them.

00:00:59.039 --> 00:01:50.573
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 631 33. And let me remind us all that these words come from Jesus himself. If you read these words in the Bible, they stick out in red. These are not Paul's words. These are not Peter's words. These are Jesus's, the son of God's words. And there are so many parts of this verse I want to break down. One, don't be anxious about your life, whether big or little. Don't be anxious about things in your life. And I know you're probably like, okay, but Lauren, that's so much easier said than done. And it's kind of funny saying that, because I'm a counselor, so I hear about anxiety all the time, and even myself, I get anxious about things all the time. It's a very normal feeling.

00:01:50.742 --> 00:02:41.322
So why? The Bible says not to be anxious, but why? Why shouldn't I be anxious? Well, two, the heavenly Father knows all that you need. Not only that, he knows exactly when you need it. And can I just challenge you with something today? I want to leave you with a little bit of a challenge, especially going into the weekend. And maybe you've asked yourself this before, maybe you haven't. But whatever you're praying for, whatever you're anxious about, ask God, is this something that I want, or is this something that I need? Maybe it is something that you need. Ask God, is it something that I need right now? Or is it something that I just want right now? Because one thing I love about this verse is it does say your heavenly father knows all that you need. So maybe just reflect a little bit and submit that to God.

00:02:41.346 --> 00:03:03.401
Okay. Is this something that I want? Is it something that I want right now? Or is this something that I need? Or is this something that I need right now? And I think it's always good to always seek your own heart first and have the Lord come into your heart and seek your thoughts and seek your wants and needs. It's just always a good, submissive prayer. Okay, so why? Why should we pray this?

00:03:03.466 --> 00:03:10.506
Right? Because this is challenging. Why should we pray this? Well, let's come back to this. Well, three. Seek first the kingdom of God.

00:03:10.657 --> 00:03:36.623
Not last, not after, but seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. Seek the Lord. Seek what is good. Seek your local church. Serve at your local church. Seek the word of God. When you're going through stuff, when you're anxious about stuff, seek the message of goddess. Seek the word of God. Read your bibles. Okay. Why, Lauren? Why all these things? Why are we breaking down this verse? Well, here's why.

00:03:36.711 --> 00:03:51.900
And this is how the verse ends. Because all of these things will be added to our lives. The things you're anxious about, the things you want, the things you need. When we seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, it's all going to be added to our lives anyways.

00:03:52.439 --> 00:04:11.175
So that's why we need to seek first the kingdom of God. That's why we need to not be anxious about things. That's why we need to understand, is this something that I want or is this something that I need? That's why we need to not be so in control of things. That's why we need to be content with where we're at.

00:04:11.207 --> 00:04:46.012
And I love this verse. Cause it's really just bringing this whole week to a close. Because all of these things are gonna be added to our lives when we seek first. And this is important. When we seek first the kingdom, when we seek God's righteousness, it's already going to be added to your lives. So don't get caught up in anxiousness. Don't get caught up in worry. Don't get caught up in, oh, my gosh. But I just want it. And I want it right now, or I need it, and I just, I need it like yesterday, or I need it today or I need it tomorrow. God knows exactly what you need and when you need it. And you know what?

00:04:46.076 --> 00:04:56.730
Submit yourself and ask the Lord, do I want or do I need this? Because the Lord knows exactly what you need, exactly when you need it. So let's all pray.

00:04:57.189 --> 00:05:26.648
Dear God, thank you so much for an amazing week. God, and I just pray if this episode was challenging to anybody, Lord, I pray that you sort of just help them come to terms, Lord, with maybe some concepts, Lord, that maybe they haven't heard before. God, and right now, I just pray for everyone listening, goddess, that you help them really just submit themselves to you, the God, even myself. Lord, I just submit myself to you. My life, my timeline, my anxieties, my worries, everything. Lord, I submit them to you.

00:05:26.783 --> 00:05:59.932
Why? Because I seek first your kingdom and your righteousness, Lord. And I know every anxiety, every fear, every worry, every want, every need. It's already going to be added to my life, Lord, because you are good and you are faithful. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your five minute daily dose of heaven.
