Serve With Humility

Serve With Humility

Have you ever wondered how to serve with humility even in challenging times? In today's episode, host Gaby Alessi takes us on a reflective journey through the lens of the Apostle Paul's experiences as she explores the powerful call to serve God with humility despite life's tests. Drawing from her personal experiences, including a memorable trip to the ancient town of Meletus in Greece, Gaby paints a vivid picture of steadfast faith and humble service. She highlights Paul's inspirational dedication during his final days before heading to Jerusalem and emphasizes that our commitment to serving God should persist through all seasons of life, no matter the trials we face.

Join Gaby in this uplifting devotional as we unite in prayer, seeking humble hearts and steadfast spirits to serve God and others, just as Paul did. Let's strengthen our community in faith and devotion together.

You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1234. Today's Devo is called Serve with Humility. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Welcome back, Everybody, to episode 1234. Pretty significant. I'm your host this week, Gabby Alessi. And it's just been a pleasure hosting and sharing and being a part.

00:00:43.387 --> 00:01:24.162
This has been amazing. But today's a really special day because some of our church family and some of my family members are actually traveling to Greece today. So let's be in prayer for them because they're going to go on a trip called the Footsteps of Paul. I don't know if you guys have heard of this, but it's a trip and a tour where you go all through the different cities and the little towns that Paul would have traveled through preaching the gospel. And it all takes place in Greece. And it is a phenomenal, phenomenal trip. My sister Lauren and I, we actually took this trip with our grandmother, my mom's mom, we took this trip with her about a year and a half ago and it was such a blessing.

00:01:24.225 --> 00:01:34.897
And so them going on this trip, it actually took me back to one of the moments on the trip where we went to this town called Meletus. And you see this town talked about in

00:01:34.953 --> 00:02:19.454
17 through 24. And just to give you some context of why this, this story sticks out to me and why I want to share it today because we were, we were touring this town in Miletus and he's telling us, our tour guide is telling us all about the history and all this and that and whatever, but he wasn't mean mentioning Paul. And so frankly, at the end of the tour, I got a little bored and I'm like, I just want to know why and if Paul was here and what he was doing. And so I, I checked out a little bit and we get to the end of it and we're about to get back on the bus and he stops the whole group and he goes, by the way, guys, this was the town that Paul gathered all the church elders from Ephesus and he made his final goodbye before going to Jerusalem. So I immediately, I freaked out. I immediately opened up

00:02:19.461 --> 00:03:00.258
17, 21. And it says this from Meletus Paul sent to Ephesus for the elders of the church. When they arrived, he said to them, you know how I lived the whole time I was with you? From the first day I came into the province of Asia. I served the Lord with great humility and with tears and in the midst of severe testing by the plots of my Jewish opponents. You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you. But I've taught you publicly and from house to house. You see, I was so blown away by this verse, because Paul is about to leave. He's about to go to Jerusalem. And frankly, he doesn't know what awaits him in Jerusalem.

00:03:00.354 --> 00:03:07.729
Everybody's even telling him, paul, don't go. Don't go back. You know, he could have been killed. He could have been. He was imprisoned at that point.

00:03:07.770 --> 00:03:39.969
And you, when you continue to read Acts, you see what ends up happening. But he's about to make this. This big step where he's going to go and be persecuted and be imprisoned for the things that he believes and what people are saying about him. But I love what he says to the people in Ephesus. He says this. I serve the Lord with great humility in the midst of severe testing. You see, I think we need to remember that our calling is to serve God with great humility. And even though we go through testing, testing can't stop our serving.

00:03:40.599 --> 00:04:31.990
You see, sometimes when we go through a test, you know, we'll serve the Lord. We'll give him everything. We'll give him our time, our talents and our treasure. We'll be at our local church, or we'll be helping people, our neighbors around us, or we'll be serving people. And we feel so good when we're in the good seasons, when we're in the easy seasons, in the calm seasons. But when the testing comes, we almost feel like the test grants us permission to stop serving. And, you know, sometimes it does get difficult, especially when it's a health struggle or when it's something that physically we. We might not be able to serve God. But I think we need to remember that we are called to serve God with great humility in the midst of the test, in the midst of whatever testing season God is putting us through or we are facing, we are still to serve Him.

00:04:32.350 --> 00:04:39.302
And serving God might look different in every season of our life. You know, I'm a young adult. I'm 25 years old.

00:04:39.485 --> 00:05:26.805
I serve at church with a Lot of my friends. And in the season of our life right now, we're all single. We are all able to give all of our time. I mean, I'm not single, but I don't have children. I'm getting married, but I don't have children. So my schedule allows me to be at church all the time. And so I'm able to serve God's house and serve the Lord through that. With my time, I can go and I can give of my efforts. You know, I have the time to do that. But I also know that people older than me or even, even some of my siblings, because they have children, they're in a different season where they're serving God doesn't look the same as mine, but it doesn't mean they've stopped serving God. And I think we have to remind ourselves that even though your season might look a certain way, you can still serve God in every season with great humility.

00:05:26.997 --> 00:06:33.038
But we can't let the testings in life, the trials in life stop us from serving him. So I pray that all of us would come to a place of humility. Serve God, serve his house, serve his people, serve him with all of our heart in the midst of the testing. Because we know if Paul can do it, we can do it. If God gave Paul the endurance to do it, he will give us the endurance to do it. So today, serve God with great humility in the midst of the test. Father, we thank you for today. We thank you that you've given us the ability to serve you. We thank you, Lord, that you have covered us in this season and that in the seasons of our life we can continue to serve you. And so I pray that we humble ourselves before you. We serve you with this humility in the midst of of the trials. Father. And we're just believing that you are working out the trial. You are working all things for the good of those who love you. So whatever test we're in, whatever trial, whatever struggle that we are in, Father, you are working it out as we serve you diligently and humbly, and in Jesus name we pray.

00:06:33.134 --> 00:06:55.079
