You're listening to the my morning Devotional podcast, episode 1054. Today's episode is called speak like Summer. Hey there. We're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.
00:00:22.365 --> 00:00:33.198
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the my morning Devotional podcast. Well, it is Thursday, everybody.
00:00:33.253 --> 00:00:47.045
We're just nearing the end of the week. Almost there. Almost there. Stephanie, you've done a great job the past week of these devotionals, and we've got another great one today called speak like summer. And can you take us into this one?
00:00:47.118 --> 00:01:31.007
Let's do it. Proverbs 1019 through 21 says, sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues. The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked is of little value. The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of sense. Let me just remind you all, how you speak matters in person and in private. Yeah. How you speak of others, it matters. And just in case you needed a reminder, God hears you everywhere you go. God hears you alone at home, and he hears you amongst all your friends. He hears you on the phone. He even sees your texts.
00:01:31.144 --> 00:01:49.864
He hears it all. And he sees it all. And how you speak really does matter. How you speak of your church, how you speak of your family, how you speak of your spouse, how you speak of your children, how you speak of your coworkers, how you speak of your pastor, how you speak of your boss.
00:01:50.031 --> 00:02:00.481
It all matters. Yeah. And you can either bring nourishment and life to those things, or you can take it away. The choice is yours. Yeah.
00:02:00.626 --> 00:02:08.009
And let me be clear. It's not about speaking positively all the time, because that's just not realistic.
00:02:08.169 --> 00:02:11.866
There are times that you'll have to speak truth, and sometimes the truth is negative.
00:02:11.937 --> 00:02:37.602
Yeah. Like that is life. You will. Speaking truth is better than speaking positively all the time. But the word says to speak the truth in love, and I'm of the personality that just wants to tell you how it is. Yes, I would love to confront you. I would love to tell you the truth. But is that really going to help the situation if it's not done in love? No one's going to listen to me if I'm speaking the truth in bitterness. Well, the Bible calls it.
00:02:37.626 --> 00:02:55.759
You're a clanging symbol. Yes. Like, if you say those things, but you don't have love, you're just a clanging symbol. You're just. You're basically pointless noise that's just trying to distract people and it's annoying. Yes. You're not even giving anything to the. You're not helpful. You're not helping the scenario.
00:02:55.840 --> 00:03:14.280
Yes. And if you want to be someone who blesses people with their speech, then bless people with your speech. It's as simple as that. And there is a way to find the words to communicate to someone the truth. In love. That's how you really help the situation.
00:03:14.439 --> 00:03:46.936
That's how you really bring life to the situation. It's not about speaking kind words all the time. No. It's about speaking spirit led words in love. Yeah. And let me encourage you in this, knowing when to share something. You know, I'm married, so in marriage it is all about the art of communication. It's all about. Do I need to say this right now? Yes. And this is how I need to say it. This is how my husband likes to be spoken to. People call it timing and tone. Tnt. Oh, my gosh. Time and tone.
00:03:47.008 --> 00:04:31.514
Spot on. Yeah. And then just read the situation and realize, you know what? This is not the time. And here's how you know, if you should say something, is it going to nourish them? Is it going to be righteous and is it going to be joyous and is it going to be loving? And if it's none of those things, then just pause and hold your tongue, go back, write down what it is you want to say, see if it's joyous, righteous and loving. Yeah. And then go back to the situation. Yeah. But like you said, timing and tone. Because your speech, the way you say it, can completely ruin a situation or it can save the situation. So that's my encouragement to you today.
00:04:31.682 --> 00:04:35.521
Speak like summer. Summer is supposed to bring rest.
00:04:35.586 --> 00:04:50.209
Summer is supposed to bring joy. Summer is supposed to bring light. It's supposed to bring the vacation that you've always needed. It's the sunshine during all of the winter months. And your speech can be the exact same way to somebody if you do it right.
00:04:50.290 --> 00:05:01.444
Yeah. So this is your prayer. God, I want to be spirit led in my speech. So teach me how to. To talk to others by bringing them life.
00:05:01.572 --> 00:06:45.060
So let's pray right now. God, we thank you, father, for the relationships in our life, for the marriage in our life, for the people in our life. But, God, we understand that how we speak to them is everything. Yes. So we pray right now to be spirit led in our words, to be spirit led in our conversation. Let every conversation we have today be spirit led. And let it be nourishing to the people we're speaking to. Let it be joyous to the people that we're speaking to. Let it bring rest. Let it bring peace. Let it bring a fulfilling to that person, God. And maybe our speech can really turn the situation and make it better. But Father, only if it's spirit led. Let every word out of our mouth be thought through. Let it be spirit led. And Father, we don't feel peace with what we're going to say. Give us the self control to hold our tongue so that we can just bring peace to the situation that we're in. We can bring righteousness to the situation that we're in. Like we prayed earlier this week, we are christians first, and Christians speak the truth, but in love. And if what we're going to say is not loving, let us not say it at all. But Father, we leave you at the forefront of everything that we say and do today, Father, and in Jesus name we pray. Amen. And amen. So there you have it. Your five minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day. If you found value in this devotional, share it with a friend, leave a comment or review for us on the app you're using right now. Until tomorrow, we pray that your latte is strong, but your love for Jesus is stronger.
