Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we continue our Advent 2020 prayers. Today we are reading out of Exodus 15:2 which says "The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him."
"This verse is beautiful, feels like a poem or a song you’d write for the love of our life and oddly it’s exactly what it is. It comes from the song of Moses and Miriam at the beginning of exodus.
We’ve been praying and preparing for Christmas through our Advent 2020 series of prayers. We’ve been talking about Jesus and why he came who he was but today we want to look at how we’ve been praising his name long before he came, the same way we’ve been praising His name for thousands of years after his departure from earth.
He is the most talked about man in history. Why? Well because he is the one man who will seek you more than anyone on this planet. He looks for you when you’re lonely. He will never leave you behind and we get to celebrate in that.
Another version of this verse says The Lord is my Strength and my Shield”
I like that it’s the too opposites. He promises to give us strength when we need it. But He also promises to be our shield and in this verse our song. Almost as an indication that he gives you the force to keep going but he also gives you the rhythm to slow down.
What does a shield do? It protects you from the incoming attack. It allows you to catch your breath before you can keep fighting. Remind yourself that it’s okay to take shelter when you need a moment to breathe.
My prayer for us today is that we ask for strength if we need it today, or we ask for shelter if we need that. Whether you’re on track and tackling goals or if you’re at a place where you need a break. He is with us."
