You are listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1136. Today's Devo is called Sweet Rolls from Heaven. Hey there. We're the Alesses, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.
00:00:22.001 --> 00:01:02.356
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allyson to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Happy Monday, everybody. And to everyone in the United States and maybe outside the United States, happy Veterans Day. If you or a loved one has served our country, we just want to thank you so much for your service and we hope you are enjoying a wonderful holiday. My name is Lauren Alessi and I will be your host for the week. And we are talking all about gratitude as we are coming upon the holiday of Thanksgiving. And I don't know about you, but I always love talking about gratitude because I'm human and I just need it.
00:01:02.540 --> 00:01:13.852
So we are actually talking about the part in Exodus where it's talking about bread from heaven and it's Thanksgiving themed, so we thought we'd call it Sweet Rolls from Heaven. And I really love this episode title.
00:01:13.909 --> 00:01:20.900
It's made me laugh all on my own, so I hope it made you laugh this morning. So we are going to start reading because we have a lot of
00:01:20.933 --> 00:02:45.050
1 8. And it says this. They set out from Elim, and all the congregation of the people of Israel came to the wilderness of sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the 15th day of the second month after they had departed from the land of Egypt. And the whole congregation of the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. And the people of Israel said to them, would that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt when we sat by the meat pots and ate bread to the full. For you have brought us out into the wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger. So quick pause. It just sounds like the people of Israel are complaining to Moses and Aaron, saying, okay, why did you bring us to the middle of nowhere? We could have died in Egypt, where at least, you know, we had a home. We were, we had roofs over our head. But you brought us out into the middle of nowhere where we have no food, we have no home, and we're just going to die like this. And I love Moses response. It says, then actually, no, look at this. It says. Then the Lord said to Moses, behold, I am about to bring bread from heaven for you. That the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may test them whether they will walk in my law or not. On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather daily.
00:02:45.163 --> 00:03:20.026
I'm just pointing this out for the first time and realizing this, that as soon as the people grumble and complain, this is God's response. I'm going to test the people. I'm going to put them to the test. And I just find that really, really interesting. So on the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather daily. So Moses and Aaron said to all the people of Israel, at evening you shall know that it was the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt. And in the morning, you shall see the glory of the Lord, because he has heard your grumbling against the Lord. For what are we that you grumble against us?
00:03:20.211 --> 00:03:31.044
And Moses said, when the Lord gives you in the evening meat to eat, and in the morning bread to the full, because the Lord has heard your grumbling, that you grumble against him. What are we?
00:03:31.155 --> 00:03:34.673
Your grumbling is not against us, but against the Lord.
00:03:34.848 --> 00:03:48.889
And I love this point because Moses is essentially like, it wasn't my idea to bring you out of Egypt. The Lord called me to do this, and you followed. So when you complain, when you grumble, who am I that you're grumbling against me? You're really grumbling against God.
00:03:48.937 --> 00:04:00.044
And, you know, it's very easy to read the Old Testament and to read the story about the children of Israel leaving Egypt and finding the Promised Land, and to get upset and annoyed at the people of Israel.
00:04:00.224 --> 00:04:14.540
But the truth is, guys, that's us. And I don't know about you, but sometimes when I'm weak, I can totally relate to the children of Israel. And that mindset of, you know, it would have just been easier to stay there. So I know that this is a very convicting verse for me in a good way.
00:04:14.652 --> 00:04:40.908
14, and it simply says this. Do all things without grumbling or disputing. It continues on to say that you may be blameless and innocent children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation. Wow. I think that's pretty much all we need to hear from the Word of God today, because it's so convicting and it's so powerful and just a reminder that we are human.
00:04:40.956 --> 00:04:44.581
We're going to have times and moments where we feel like complaining.
00:04:44.773 --> 00:04:52.084
And I think it's kind of cool to notice how God works, that sometimes he's going to send tests our way when we are going through a tough time.
00:04:52.204 --> 00:05:54.045
But that's not for us to get weak and tripped up over. It's for us to realize it's God who brought us here and it's to give God the glory. So let's just pray. Dear God, I thank you for your word, God, that every time I read it I get something new. And I could have heard this verse since I was a little girl. I could have heard this story since I was a kid. But God, here I am, an adult reading this verse again and every time I read it, God, new wisdom and new revelation is showed, God. So I thank you for your glory and I just pray for everybody listening to this for myself and also in this room, God, I just pray that as we enter into the holidays, God, that we are able to do things without grumbling or complaining, God, that we could simply just do things out of the joy of our hearts, God, and recognize that we're not doing things unto ourselves, God, but we're doing things unto you. And we can find joy in the small things and also the big things. Lord, in Jesus name I pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your 5 minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today.
