You're listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1233. Today's Devo is called Taking Ownership. Hey there. We're the Alessi's a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Welcome back, everybody. Gabby Lesi, your host here. I'm excited for today's Devo and I want to jump in quickly. I also want to say, if you have not listened to yesterday's episode, I'm still on fire from that one. I'm really feeling the Holy Spirit even in my room as I record these. These episodes. So I encourage you to go back and to listen to it because yesterday's devo really sets up today's devo. So I want to jump in Matthew 25 to give you some context. This is the parable of the talents. So the parable of the talents starts as it's. It's the master. He has all of this wealth. He has these servants. So he calls three of his servants and he says, I am entrusting you with my wealth, with my. My money. He gives five talents to one servant, two talents to the second servant, one talent to the third servant. The first talent. The. The first servant, excuse me, he takes his five, he doubles it. The second servant, he doubles it.
00:01:30.926 --> 00:01:38.453
The third servant takes his one and he hides it. It actually says that he buries the talent.
00:01:38.581 --> 00:03:12.487
So I want to pick up here in verse 19, it says, After a long time, the master of those servants returned, settled accounts with them. The man who had received the five bags of gold brought the other five. He said, master, you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more. His master replied, well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful with a few things. I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share in your master's happiness. The man with two bags of gold, I'm going through this quick because of time. He also came. He said, master, you entrusted me with two bags of gold. See, I have gained two more. His master replied, basically the same thing, well done, good and faithful. You've been faithful with a few things. I'll put you in charge of many things. Come and share. But in verse 24, we are encountering the man that buried his talent. He says, the man who had received one bag of gold came Master. He said, I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you now, just so we can see it in our terms and what it means to us. The picture that we're painting or what Jesus is. The picture that Jesus is painting with this story is how God has given all of us as believers. He has given us a gift that we bring to the table in order to glorify Him. He has given us a gift. He's given us talents. He's given us something that we can bring to the table in order to give him glory, in order to give him praise. There are.
00:03:12.544 --> 00:03:19.800
There is a difference between what the two servants did and what the one servant did. And I want to read it here, the verbiage.
00:03:19.879 --> 00:03:48.979
It shows it to us. Here, you see, it says this. The two that doubled, they said, this, I have gained five more. The other one said, I have gained two more. Whereas the one that buried said, I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. He continues on to even say, here is your money. You see, the difference between doubling and burying is ownership.
00:03:49.719 --> 00:05:16.774
The difference between taking what God has given you and doubling it versus taking what God has given you and hiding it is when you take what ownership of that gift. I spoke this at our youth group, and I was so challenged by it, even for me. And so I hope this blesses you too. But I feel like today's question that we have to answer is, what gift has God given you that he wants you to take ownership of? Because when you take ownership of that thing, you will double it. But we need to take ownership of it. You see, God has given us a gift that's on loan to us for this season. For the time being, it is ours. And he wants us to. To take ownership of it. He doesn't want us to be afraid of Him. He doesn't want us to see him as a hard man. He doesn't want us to see him in a negative light. He wants to take. He wants us to take the gift that he's given us and to put it to work and to double it. And with that, we have to take ownership of it. So what has God given you today to take ownership of? Is it your job? Is it the kids that he's given you? Is it your friendships? Your relationships? Your schooling? What is it that God has given you, that you need to say, all right, I, I gotta do a better job of taking ownership of this thing. I gotta start making some more decisions for my life. Is it your health where you go? I gotta stop taking the back seat and I gotta start getting in the driver's seat.
00:05:16.822 --> 00:05:53.600
The Lord God's got me. God's out, he, he's. He's managing the car, you know, But God wants me to get in the driver's seat and make some decisions, decisions and choose to double the things that he has done for me. So the difference between doubling and bearing is ownership. What has God given you today to take ownership of? Father, we thank you for today. I thank you that you've given us a gift. You've given us talents. You've given us things that we can bring to the table, Lord, that we can double and bless you with. God, we want to live a life that blesses you and that serves, serves you and that honors you and pleases you.
00:05:53.720 --> 00:06:08.127
So I pray today that you would expose it to us. You would show it to us. You would shine a light on what needs to be taken ownership of. That way we can double it and bring back these gifts, these talents to you and say, look, Lord, what we've done.
00:06:08.184 --> 00:06:19.259
We took five and we have 10. God, we had two when we have four now, Lord, we can double it and give you glory through it all. In Jesus name we pray. Amen and amen.
00:06:19.600 --> 00:06:40.439
