Today's Devote is called the Fullness. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Good morning everybody, and we've made it to the middle of the week. I hope that you guys are feeling blessed by this week. We are loving being together here in the podcast room. And I didn't say my name. My name is Rachelle Alessi. In case you didn't know, I was here this week and I'm with my husband Chris. And hey, everybody, we've had a great time so far talking about having an effective faith, and today we're going to talk about the fullness of it. So, Chris, tell us more about it. Yeah, well, again, thanks for having me. You just said something super nonchalantly.
00:00:58.332 --> 00:02:18.756
You said episode 1218. That's insane. I know, right? That's so cool. But we're going to read Colossians 1, 9 and 10. And the last two days we've been reading from 2 Peter. Today we're reading from something Paul would have written. But you see a pattern and theme of truth here in verse 9 of Colossians 1. And so from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, just so you can quickly know this is actually a church that Paul wouldn't have started, one of his spiritual sons would have started it. And so they would have been reporting back to Paul how the church is doing. And so he says, from the day we heard about how the church was doing, we've not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding so as. Or for the purpose of so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God. So we even read the last couple of days that they keep us from being, you know, these qualities keep us from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of Christ, in the knowledge of God. Here he says that we can actually be filled with some spiritual wisdom and understanding, so we can walk in a way that's fully pleasing to him, which bears fruit in every good work.
00:02:18.828 --> 00:02:29.780
Again, in the knowledge of God. And I just wonder if some Christians just feel less than full. I preached a message on it recently, like, you know, we can all look at a water bottle.
00:02:29.860 --> 00:03:03.372
If somebody was to open a water bottle, take one small sip, close it up real tight and put it down, we could almost know that's not a full water bottle, because we just kind of have that barometer in our head of, like, where a fresh water bottle should, should be. But it's harder as a Christian to know when our life is less than full. But Paul here is praying like, no, I pray that God's spirit would fill you. And the byproduct of that fullness is a life that fully pleases God. Now, I'll be honest. Sometimes I read scripture.
00:03:03.436 --> 00:03:47.139
When I read things like fully pleasing God, I think of a kid trying to fully please a parent. But that's like, so not the way to look at this verse. The way to look at it is I can walk around in a way that is bearing fruit in every good work, not just some. That is seeing progress in my way of honoring God. And when I honor God, I love my own life better. I can see progress in every area, not just some. So Paul hears about this church, and he's like, man, I started praying, Lord, fill him. Lord. Fill them, Lord, fill them so they could please you. Lord, fill them so they would please you. And I gotta be honest, listener, that's our prayer for you.
00:03:47.180 --> 00:04:24.252
That you would be filled. That you would not live a life that is not all the way full. And just so you know, the Colossians would have tried to add Christianity to everything else they already kind of believed. And that seems absurd, but we do that too. We try to add things we're hearing from Christians to all the other stuff, like the way we were raised, the thing our mom said or the thing that one celebrity or politician that we like said. We add Christianity to those things, but in reality, that's a less than full life. The fullness is found in scripture. The fullness is found in God alone.
00:04:24.315 --> 00:04:38.901
Not in horoscopes, not in palm readings, not in angels, not in crystals, not in anything like that. It's found in God and in Christ. And I can live a full, full life if I just pray that God would fill me.
00:04:39.005 --> 00:04:46.050
And then I can. As a result, I can walk in a manner that fully pleases the Lord. And I just think that's awesome. I love that.
00:04:46.670 --> 00:05:12.603
Can I ask you a question? Always. I know we didn't plan for this question, but for somebody that might be listening and they might say, I just don't know what fullness might look like. Like, what is a life of fullness with God? What does that look like? Because they might come from a background where their parents might have not. They might have not been raised in a Christian home. This just different. Maybe they just found the Lord and they're wondering, what does that look like for.
00:05:12.771 --> 00:05:53.401
For that type of step, what would you say a fullness of a life with Christ would look like? Well, I know that always changes. Well, a verse later, it says, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might, for all endurance, patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father. And I think that when you. When you live a full life, you kind of see these qualities you're able to endure. You're patient, you have joy, and you're grateful. I think when you look at a full life, like, it doesn't mean that everything's always good. It doesn't mean that everything's always easy. In fact, most of the time, it means the opposite of that. But it means I can endure the storm.
00:05:53.545 --> 00:06:07.322
It means I can be patient and I can wait on God. And it doesn't overwhelm me. It means that when God looks at my life, when people look at me, they just see a joy that does not resonate from circumstances. It resonates from an understanding of who God is.
00:06:07.505 --> 00:07:14.156
And then it's just this gratefulness and this thankfulness that pours out of me. You know, I honestly feel like if someone gets too close to me and they push me up, you know, against a wall, I hope what pours out of me when I'm squeezed is thankfulness, because that's how I feel. Not that everything is exactly great. We have things we're believing for right now, but ultimately, when you get around us, you're going to say, man, those people are thankful for what God is doing and what he's done. And I think that's what a full life is. And if you're living anything short of that, get to a church. Get to a church, connect with other Christians, and just watch what God does and then get in your word and watch what God does. Amen. Can you pray for us? I would love to. Father, I thank you so much that the full life is even available to us. Lord, I pray like Paul did, that you would fill every listener in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. Not in some weird way, Lord, but in your truth, that you'd fill them so they can walk in a manner fully pleasing to you, bearing fruit in every good work. We thank you for it all, Lord. In Jesus name, Amen.
00:07:14.278 --> 00:07:36.160
