You are listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1185. Today's Devo is called the Lord be with you. Hey there. We're the Alessies, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.
00:00:21.760 --> 00:00:36.066
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Happy Friday, everybody. We made it to the end of the week. I have been your host for this week.
00:00:36.137 --> 00:00:58.539
My name is Lauren Alessi, and it's been a really good week. It's actually been very challenging, I will say, even for me to host this podcast week and to come up with these things because, I don't know, it's been challenging and convicting in my own life. So I hope it's been challenging and convicting, but also brought encouragement into your lives as well.
00:00:58.920 --> 00:01:31.798
I want to jump right into the word because this particular verse of the day comes with a lot of context. But we're actually reading out of First Samuel, and it's the story of David and Goliath. So most people know this story. It's David, a shepherd boy. All of his brothers were out fighting in the Israelite army against the Philistines. The Philistines brought a massive giant. And they were like, we've got to kill this giant. And all the Israelites were like, hey, we're too scared to fight this giant. Like, this giant's going to kill us.
00:01:31.933 --> 00:01:57.284
And all of a sudden, David was like, at home. He wasn't even fighting in the army. He's like, I'll kill this giant. I don't care what it takes, I'll kill this giant. I'm a man of God. And David had a ton of brothers. They're like, you can't kill this giant. And long story short, David finds his way to the battleground. I'm going to fight this giant. You can't stop me. The Lord is going to be with me, therefore nothing's going to stop me. And he's ready to fight this giant.
00:01:57.412 --> 00:02:05.060
And we are going to pick off now or pick up where this is left. So we're going to pick up in 1st
00:02:05.099 --> 00:02:49.592
33. And it said this Saul replied, you are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him. You are only a young man. And he has been a warrior from his youth. That sounds like a pretty logical explanation. Verse 34 But David said to Saul, you, servant has been keeping his father's sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it, and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it, and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them because he has defied the armies of the living God. I love that David just threw this in there like you could tell he was heated. He's like this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them.
00:02:49.616 --> 00:03:00.840
I love that he's heated and he's ready to fight this Philistine. Verse 37 the Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from this hand of the Philistine.
00:03:01.000 --> 00:03:04.659
Saul said to David, go, and the Lord be with you.
00:03:05.520 --> 00:04:50.538
So I wanted to close this week out with this story because I've always had it in my heart that just like David said, hey, I had a lion come after my sheep and I struck it and I killed it. And guess what? I had a bear come after me, struck it and killed it. Just like I killed the lion, just like I killed the bear, I'm going to kill this Philistine. I pray that that's the kind of faith, that's the kind of hope, that's the kind of courage and strength you walk into this newness, this new year. I pray that that comes upon you into 2025, that you could say, you know what? It's been a tough week. It's been a tough morning. But you know What? I faced 2024. I faced 2023. Heck, I faced 2020 and the COVID pandemic, and I have seen a lot worse. And I'm going to take on whatever comes at me in 2025, and the Lord's going to be with me, so why should I fear? And I just pray that the strength that is on David comes upon you this morning. And whatever you are facing, whether it's sickness in your household, whether you are literally facing grief and it's hard for you to wake up in the morning, or whether it's something small, whether you know, whether you're facing a serious relationship issue, whether you're facing a breakup, but that hurts you and it's hard to get up and face every day, whatever you're facing, I pray that you can walk into it with the faith and the strength that David had that you could say, you know what, I've faced some stuff. I'm going to wake up in the morning and I'm going to face this again. And just like Saul said to David, I say this to you. May the Lord be with you. The My Morning devotional audience. I just pray that the Lord is with you today, pray that the Lord is with you tomorrow. All throughout 2025.
00:04:50.593 --> 00:05:26.439
I pray that the Lord be with you. And let us pray. Dear God, we thank you for every person listening. We thank you, thank you for your word and how it inspires us, God. And we thank you for the faith that was on David, God, and how it is inspiring even today, Lord. We pray for that kind of faith upon us today and all throughout the year, God, that we could say, I face the lion, I face the bear, and I will take down the Philistine. And Lord, we just pray that your grace, your mercy and your courage be upon us as we face the newness that will meet us in the new year. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
