You're listening to the my morning Devotional podcast, episode 1114. Today's Devo is called the Picture of Obedience. Hey, there. We're the Alessis, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time.
00:00:22.126 --> 00:00:58.369
That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the my morning devotional podcast. Well, it's Thursday, and we are just near the end of the week. Some people call Thursday the new Friday, but this is Gabby coming at you guys, coming back with another Devo today. And I just have really enjoyed this week. I felt like it's been really a great week where we've connected. I feel like I've gotten to share a little bit more about myself, and so I hope you have enjoyed it. As we've been talking about obedience and, you know, day one, we talked about the reason why we obey.
00:00:58.789 --> 00:01:35.141
Day two, we talked about, you know, we obey him because he asked. Let us just be. Just respond quickly because he asked for it. Yesterday, we talked about sacrifices versus obedience and devoting certain things to destruction. And maybe that's still stirring up in you even today, as God is revealing to you maybe different things that we need to devote to destruction and. And. And be obedient to him with those things. And today I want to focus on, you know, the picture of obedience and how Jesus is the perfect example of why we should be obedient.
00:01:35.286 --> 00:02:13.425
In Hebrews five eight nine, it says this son though he was, son being s o n, son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered. And once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him. Jesus is the perfect picture of obedience. And if you ever sit back and, you know, sometimes as humans, we can feel like God, why us? Why me? Why are you calling me to do this? And I think what's significant is Jesus had that same thought. You know, I love.
00:02:13.538 --> 00:02:38.524
I love the Lord, and I love Jesus, and I love God. And I know that sounds so cheesy, but I do, because the feelings that we feel, the thoughts that we have, the seasons we go through, Jesus experienced all of it. When Jesus was here on the earth. He felt the pain that we all go through. He experienced loss. He experienced having to say no to certain things.
00:02:38.692 --> 00:02:45.400
And what we see here today in Hebrews is he experienced having to be obedient when he didn't want to be.
00:02:45.740 --> 00:03:18.389
Remember Jesus sat before the Lord in the garden before he was sacrificed and before he was taken. And Jesus said, God, if you can, like, if there's a way, take this cup from me. There was a moment where Jesus was like, God, please remove this from me if I don't have to do this, God, remove it. And. And it's just a perfect picture of, you know, Jesus had a moment where he had to be obedient, and even he was trying to find a way out. Even he had a moment of fear and a moment of not wanting to do.
00:03:18.430 --> 00:04:09.490
You know, his flesh wasn't wanting to do what God was calling him to do. And, man, it's such a relatable experience. It's such a relatable moment with Jesus, because there have been plenty of times when Jesus has asked me of things that I'm like, God, please, anything else, God, if there's somebody else that can do it, or, God, take something else, or, Lord, call me to do something else, I'll do anything else. But this right here is really hard. We've all had a take this cup from me moment, but this is the part that we have to learn, and we have to relate with Jesus, and we have to learn from Jesus. It's the but not my will, thy will. It's the God. I will do what you asked me to do. I'm going to do it because you asked it. Lord, I love you, and I'm going to be obedient to you.
00:04:09.870 --> 00:04:24.149
You see, in Hebrews five, it says that Jesus learned obedience from what he suffered. And so in our sufferings, it's the perfect time for us to learn how to obey God. Maybe you are suffering right now.
00:04:24.230 --> 00:04:27.653
Maybe you're in a season where you are really struggling.
00:04:27.822 --> 00:04:41.959
Maybe you're at the end of your rope, and you're thinking, how can God ask me to obey when I'm already suffering, when I'm already in pain? Well, let me encourage you today. Look at Jesus. Go back, read the word.
00:04:42.120 --> 00:04:56.459
Go look at Jesus's example. Because Jesus was in the middle of suffering. And sometimes obedience does take suffering, but we can learn how to trust God and lean on him through our suffering.
00:04:56.879 --> 00:05:11.783
And what happened is, when Jesus learned obedience through suffering, what Hebrews five eight tells us is that now we can obey him. He became the source of eternal salvation for all of those who obey him.
00:05:11.951 --> 00:06:38.862
So if you want a picture of obedience, if you want to look at man, how can I actually step out and walk in obedience? Look at the life of Jesus. Look at the life of our lord and savior. If he did it, we can do it, too. Jesus obeyed, so we can obey. And what's beautiful about all of this is that when we learn how to be obedient through our sufferings, when we learn from Jesus obedience, we become more like him. And that's the goal. The goal in our life is to look more like Christ, is to. To resemble him, to be more like him. So today, that's my prayer that we would all learn in this season of obedience to be more like Christ. Lord, I thank you for today. I thank you that you sent your son all of those years ago, that we are still reaping the benefits and the blessings and the harvest of what Jesus did on the cross. Lord, let us never forget what he did for us. Let us never forget the obedience of your son, Lord, when he could have stepped away, he could have asked you to find another sacrifice. He could have negotiated God, but he ultimately surrendered to you and was obedient to his father. And now he is the perfect picture of obedience. We thank you for that, Lord, and I pray that you would encourage us, you'd strengthen us in our sufferings to continue to obey you.
00:06:38.925 --> 00:06:53.463
In Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it. Your five minute daily dose of heaven. Thank you so much for tuning in today. We pray these devotionals empower you to take on your day. If you found value in this devotional, share it with a friend.
