You are listening to the My Morning Devotional podcast, episode 1160. Today's Devo is called the Time Has Come. Hey there. We're the Alesses, a ministry family working together in our church in Miami, Florida. And if you're like us, when days get busy and to do lists get longer, it can be hard to find devotional time. That's why we've partnered with our friend Allison to produce a five minute daily dose of heaven. This is the My Morning Devotional Podcast. Happy Friday, everybody, and good morning. Or, you know, I know some people listen to this later in the afternoon, so whatever time of day you're listening. Welcome to the My Morning Devotional Podcast. It is good to have you. My name is Lauren Alessi. I have been your host for this week talking about the birth of Jesus, and it's been a great week. I know I've been blessed. Just sort of processing this out. Alan is in the room here with me and we've just been like, this is an amazing story. This is really, really cool. So I hope you've been blessed listening to it, especially going into the holidays. And today is the day, you guys, we are actually talking about the birth of Jesus Christ. So I'm excited to jump into it. We are reading from Luke 2, verse 1 through 7. And again, I like to read out of the ESV. Just my preference, but read out of whatever chapter you would like if you have. We always say this.
00:01:28.260 --> 00:01:34.644
If you have a Spanish Bible, read out of the Spanish Bible. If you have a King James Bible, read out of the King James Bible. NIV works too.
00:01:34.765 --> 00:02:33.317
Read out of whatever Bible you have. This is just the one I'm reading out of. All right, let's jump into it, guys. The birth of Jesus Christ. In those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration when Quinrios was governor of Syria and all went out to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son, wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger because there was no place for them in the inn. This is one of those beautiful stories that when we think of it, at least for me, when I think of it, I picture the kids Christmas show at church.
00:02:33.381 --> 00:02:48.525
I picture, you know, that beautiful movie scene of Mary and Joseph. And I picture that beautiful manger and a nativity scene and Jesus being wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger in such a peaceful moment.
00:02:48.685 --> 00:03:59.770
But can you just imagine being there for a second or just imagine witnessing that? And what we've sort of talked about this whole week is Mary's anticipation, Mary's promise and anticipation, giving glory to God. Elizabeth partaking in that promise, partnering with her in that promise, believing God, and then Joseph, God handling it with Joseph, God speaking to Joseph. Joseph taking action on that. Nine months later, they're preparing. And by the way, of all the times for. Was it Caesar? Of all the times for Caesar to issue a decree, for all the people to be registered, it had to be that day. I'd be like, are you kidding me? So of all the times for Caesar Augustus to issue a decree for everybody to travel, it had to be that day. They travel and she gives birth to a son. And I think this is a good reminder of us. It's just very human. And it's just like life, where sometimes God does promise us things, and we're like, okay, this is happening. This is real. It's this moment. And maybe it's not what we thought it would look like. I don't think Mary expected God didn't tell her, hey, the son you're going to give birth to is going to save the world.
00:03:59.883 --> 00:04:58.096
He's going to be born in a manger, like, wrapped in just regular clothes amongst hay, in, like, a staple. Because there's, like, no hotels available. Like, there's no doctors. Like, it's just literally going to be just you guys. Because Caesar issued a decree the day of. And not that it's underwhelming, but I love Mary and Joseph's position in it all. And it's just that they were still faithful even in this seemingly, this isn't what we expected moment, even in this inconvenience of we have to travel across the country because Caesar issued a decree, but we still believe in God, that our son is the savior of the world. And I'm sure they had moments of, this is not what it's supposed to look like. This is not from God. This is not okay, but they still believed and they were still faithful with what God had promised. So maybe you're struggling with that thought today of saying, this is not what I thought my life would look like.
00:04:58.201 --> 00:05:01.644
This is not what I thought. You know, the promise would look like from God.
00:05:02.024 --> 00:05:42.814
But look what Mary and Joseph got out of it in that moment. Not just a baby, but the Savior of the world. Just by holding onto the promise of God and being faithful and believing God, not only would he bring a baby to them, but that he would bring the Savior of the world through them by being faithful and by staying humble. So let's pray. Dear God, we thank you so much for inspirations in your word like Mary and Joseph, God. And Lord, we just, we humble ourselves today, God, let us be more like Mary and Joseph, Lord, where, you know, what if the promise comes and the timing comes in an empty stable, God, because there's no room for us at any hotel, at any inn, God.
00:05:42.975 --> 00:06:14.781
But it's still in your timing, Lord. And it's not how we thought it would look, God. It's not the timing we thought it would happen in God. And maybe it's a little inconvenient, Lord. But that's when you say, nope, this is the timing. It's going to happen, Lord. Lord, may we still have faith and may we still trust you, Lord, because your promise isn't done in one day, God. Your promise lasts a lifetime. It lasts our whole lifetime, Lord. And Lord, let us still continue and choose to have faith despite the circumstances, Lord, in Jesus name we pray. Amen. So there you have it.
